The Malta Book Festival is a highly anticipated, yearly event that showcases the growing publishing scene in Malta. I was approached by the National Book Council to handle this year’s campaign - a request I gladly complied with.
The illustration mimicks an immersive reading experience by featuring numerous, known literary characters into one compostition. Additionally using a combination of the playful Fertigo for headings and a more serious Gill Sans for body text provided a harmonious balance of playfulness while retaining some formality.

The Bus Bosses Tribute Card Game was a collaborative project that started off as a student project.
It consists of a trump-card game that pokes fun at the comical bus-driver stereotypes and their accessories that characterised the Maltese public transport system until 2011.
My role was to create digital illustrations of the accessories and to write funny, fictitious character profiles. The other members were in charge of the drivers’ caricatures, layout design and printing logistics.

As part of a battery disposal awareness campaign Wasteserv Ltd commissioned an illustrated story book aimed for children.
I was asked to create accompanying illustrations based on the official Batterina character. Given the target audience, I decided to interpret the story using vector graphics. This enabled me to be flexible and make changes quickly but it also helped contribute towards a more children-appropriate style.

Bank of Valletta, one of the leading banks in Malta, offers a series of benefits in the form of reduced loan interest rates and other advantageous offers to students and recent graduates. In order to promote these offers and encourage students to switch to BOV the bank needed to launch a nation-wide campaign that would be appealing to its target audience.

renovating your fairytale home
Encouraging people to embark on the process of home ownership financed through a bank loan can be a daunting challenge – especially in the light of the recent global economic turmoil. To this end, I answered Bank of Valletta’s demanding brief by exploiting universally recognisable fairy tales to represent the different home loan categories offered by the bank.
A series of illustrations for this 2-year, nation-wide campaign exploited basic asssumptions in fairy tales assumptions and took them to the next level. The genie now contemplates buying an additional lamp (second time buyers). The mermaid is in dire need of home refurbishment (home improvement loans). Snow White and her prince approach their new, humble, dream home complete with two traditional “gallariji” (first time buyers).
Once the illustrations were approved the rest of the promotional campaign including billboards, leaflets, bus shelters, booklets, trade-fair stands, and TV commercials were created.

As part of a nation-wide, mental health awareness campaign Richmond Foundation required a series of striking visuals that were both aesthetically stimulating as well as informative to its audience.
By laboriously shaping up typography to create emotive portraits (see work in progress overleaf) I was able to illustrate the negative symptoms that characterise mental health problems in the shape of faces. By doing so I also highlighted the fact that these symptoms can become so overwhelming that they will actually be the main characteristics that make up the affected people’s composition.

As part of Bank of Valletta’s campaign to promote advantageous offers available throughout Summer, I opted to interpret the intended communication literally - by displaying good-looking vehicles carrying massive boxes. In this campaign I was also responsible for sourcing vehicles and boxes to be shot by a freelance photographer. These were then combined with carefully selected and edited stock imagery and custom decorations to create the amiable, colourful, feel-good visuals necessary for the campaign to be appealing.
