Hundreds of visitors from Texas, in-cluding Houston, Bastrop, Round Rock,GeorgetownandSanAntoniohavealreadystopped by. Out-of-state visitors from asfar away as South Dakota have enjoyedlearningaboutourareausingtheinterac-tiveaudiovisualscreen.WehaveevenhadvisitorsfromMadrid,Spain!
Visitor Center Hours will be 10 a.m.-5p.m.MondaythroughFridayand10a.m.-3p.m.onSaturday.Sundayhourswillresumeduring thepeakspringwildflower season.ThemainphonenumberfortheChamberisstill836-3695,butanewdirectnumberfortheVisitorCenteris836-3696.

Chamber Says Farewell to Retiring DirectorsFollowingcountlessmeetingsandhoursof
volunteering at events, the Chamber is sadto say farewell to several outstanding boardmembers.Theseretiringdirectorshavebeenclosely involved with the Chamber of Com-mercesinceJanuary2008,andtheyaregreat-lyresponsibleforthestridestheorganizationhastakeninthepastfewyears.

tytookthegrouptoBastroptolearnmoreaboutnaturalresources and where Washington County gets its powerfrom.ThedaywasplannedandfacilitatedbyVanceHam-iltonofBluebonnetElectric.
The day started off at Bluebonnet Electric’s beautifulheadquarters in Bastrop. Vance Hamilton and JohnnySanders gave a presentation on economic developmenttrendsintheregion.MattBentketalkedaboutthehistoryandbackgroundofBluebonnetElectricandalsohowitop-eratescomparedtootherutilityproviders.
Dr. Don Steinbach of the Department of Wildlife and
FisheriesScienceatTexasA&MUniversitygaveaninfor-mativepresentationonlanddevelopmenttrendsinWash-ingtonCountyandthroughouttheStateofTexas.
ThenextstopfortheLeadershipgroupwastheLCRA’spower plant at Lost Pines Park. The group learned howpowerisgeneratedandtheytookatourofthemassivefa-cility.
The next session of Leadership Washington CountywillfocusentirelyonEconomicDevelopment.ItisbeingcoordinatedbyChrisCallahan(LWCClassof2010)andPageMichel(LWCClassof2006).Watchforphotosnextmonth.
InJanuary,theclasswill traveltoAustinfortheStateGovernment session.Thisyear’svisitwill coincidewiththe legislaturebeing insession.Alsocomingup in2011willbeWashingtonCountyDayattheCapitol.ItwillbeheldaroundtheendofFebruary(datenotyetfinalized).

City Manager Terry Roberts welcomes attendees to the rib-bon cutting of the new Visitor Center on behalf of the City of Brenham. The new center is located on the main floor of the restored Simon Theater building on West Main Street.
Historically accurate light fixtures are reflected in the super-graphic images on the west wall of the new Visitor Center. The blue terrazzo floor features a map of the county with major points of interest highlighted with inset medallions.
Long distance visitors are already arriving at the new Visitor Center. Raquel Prieto, right, from Madrid, Spain, is touring western and central Texas with Ralston Dorn from Carrolton; they stopped by to check on accommodations options in Brenham.
