My thoughts are in bullet form this month and taken from recent C&MANational Office communications. I pass them along for your information and usewhere you live and serve. They are also intended to inspire you to give thanks

and to pray without ceasing for the world-wide work of The Alliance. More than 600 conversions took place in the Northwestern District during

the week between Palm Sunday and Easter. Nearly 6,300 young people are scheduled to attend LIFE 2010

(COLLIDE) in Louisville, KY. A Conference goal is to raise more than $1million for missions.

179 churches have established partnerships with Alliance missionfields, resulting in more than $1.4 million in extra giving (over andabove their gifts to GCF). Currently, there are 97 new partnerships inthe formative stage.

Approximately 2,000 people from Alliance churches participated in ashort term mission project in the past year; a growth of 500 from the

previous year. Matt Peace, Director for ENVISION (formerly the ShortTerm Missions Office), estimates that in 2010 2011 participants couldnumber between 3,000 3,500. This growth is an expression of C&MACore Value, Completing the Great Commission will require themobilization of every fully devoted disciple.

An Arabic speaking, seasoned couple with gifting for pioneer work andexperience in nurturing a younger team of international workers hasbeen identified and will be leading the Pushing Back the Darknessinitiative in North Africa.

From a country in North Central Asia, On Sunday, May 30, our churchmoved its Sunday service to the outdoors. People traveled almost 50kilometers by cars, trains, group taxis and bicycles to a lakeside camping

area. There we celebrated the baptism of 3 new believers . . . ! Through June 15, $308,000 has been received from Great Commission

Sunday offerings. GC Sunday receipts this year are designated tosupport new works in Central and North Asia and North Africa.

I feel wonderfully blessed and privileged to be a part of all this. Dont you?

    Keep looking up and praying,

    Dan

Recently Dave Wetzeler of ChurchSmart Resources wrote an article entitled:Are you Familiar with the NCD Story? With permission, I thought excerptsfrom his article would be an encouragement to you.Natural Church Development has quietly become a worldwide movement that ihelping churches improve their health and is drawing people closer to the triuneGod.

    The Research

A series of research projects from 1986-1995 finally culminated in a highlyreliable scientific study of over 1000 churches in 32 countries and led to thepublication of Natural Church Development: A Guide to Eight Essential Qualitiof Healthy Churches by Christian Schwarz. The eight quality characteristicsidentified are:

    1. Empowering Leadership 5. Inspiring Worship Service2. Gift-based Ministry 6. Holistic Small Groups3. Passionate Spirituality 7. Need-oriented Evangelism4. Effective Structures 8. Loving Relationships

A survey was developed to be completed by the pastor and 30 key lay people. This survey helps churches identify their strengths (maximum factors) and

weaknesses (minimum factors). Unique to the NCD process was the teachingthat the minimum factor is the strategic point of leverage and, when addressedsignificantly improves the overall health of the church

Now that churches have applied these principles for a decade, what has happened?

The ResultsAs of 2006 there were over 45,000 churches from a combined 70 different countries that had taken the survey. We looked at all the churches that had completed three or more surveys and discovered the following:

85 percent of the churches completing three or more surveys have experienced increases in both quality anquantity.

The average quality in these churches increased by six points over 31 months on average.Their growth rate increased by 51 percent. In other words, if the church had been growing by ten people pe

year before beginning the process, that number would now increase to 15 people per year.Churches working with an outside coach have experienced even greater improvements. The results do not represent a few select success stories. Rather, these are the average results of all the

churches that have completed three or more surveys. This includes those who experiencedoverwhelming success as well as those who struggled or failed.

Some Reflections1. NCD is a long-term process not a quick fix2. Invest significant time preparing your church to begin the NCD Process3. Trust the wisdom of working on your minimum factor4. Find a good coach5. Be clear about your mission: Make sure your motivation is mission driven, not survival driven. Jesus said in Mark 8For whoever wants to save his life will lose it. But whoever loses his life for me and for the Gospel will save it. God ha mission for your church in your community and it can easily be summed up in the Great Commandment and Great Com-

mission: Love the Lord your God will all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. Then go amake disciples everywhere!

    What is Your Response?

What will ministry look like in your church this next year? Will it be business as usual or will you make anintentional decision to assess the health of your church and then take strategic steps to move forward?...

The NCD Coaches in the Northeastern District want to help you improve the health of your church. A churchhaving the surveys completed prior to September, with an intentional church health team could easily be well inthe process prior to the winter holidays. Contact the Office of Church Health and Multiplication to begin theprocess. For a healthier today and tomorrow, Jon

Years ago I invited a friend to Delta Lake Family Camp. Her reaction after spending one afternoonhere: This must be what Heaven is like. My friend was not a Christian, but she left with a taste of Heavenin her heart. Thats the impact of Delta Lake Bible Conference Center and the work God does here. I hopeyou will come, taste, and see what God is doing on the grounds of Delta Lake and in the hearts of those whowalk here.

As part of Family Camp, I enjoy welcoming Pastors wives and women official workers to my home at

8933 Lakeview Drive for our annual Tea. Please plan on attending on Tuesday afternoon, July 6, from 2:00to 4:00. I hope to see many of you here during this time of encouragement one to another.Another highlight will be Alliance Women Ministries Summer Renew held in the main tabernacle on

July 4 afternoon. Meet and greet several of our missionaries and hear what God is doing around the world.I am personally excited to participate in the Upstate New York Christian Writers Gathering to be held

July 8 and 9 afternoons. Ever thought of writing? You must register for this event. Cost is $25.Family Camp is all about family. My grandchildren are coming. My girlfriends (you!) are coming. God

already arrived. So looking forward to Delta Lake Bible Conference Center Family Camp and sharing Familytime with you.

    Praying for you daily, Elaine

After laboring for three years in NewJersey, John and Mimi Soper hadsuccessfully planted a new C&MA

church, but didnt see a singleunbeliever come to salvation!

Everyone in the new church had come

from other churches. Later, when theywere asked to work on another churchplant, John prayed: Lord, teach me how

people come to faith in Christ. I cannotplant another church unless peoplebegin to pass from death unto life!

Praise God that He was faithful toanswer Johns prayer and began toreveal powerful principles from His

Word that changed everything!Soon they saw their first convert.

Before long, more and more people

were saved so that within a fewyears several hundred people

    professed faith in Christ!

One of the powerful evangelisticprinciples John learned was this:

In the web of influence of every singleNew Christian, there is at least one

Other person who is ready to respondBy taking the next step toward Christ.

So, what should we do? When wehave a person in our church come tosalvation, we need to open your eyesand get excited about all of the other

peoplewho can potentially be reachedthrough this new believer! Start withjust one! Who is the one person who

was most impacted by the changed lifeof the new convert and is ready to trust

Christ too? Help the new believerreach that one unsaved friend

or relative using these simple words:

    You saw what I was.

You see who I am.Jesus made the difference.
