ALL INSTRUMENTS – The score is a C score, that is, written in concert pitch. – Accidentals refer to the following note (except in obvious cases of fast repetition). – All trills are semitone trills unless otherwise indicated (in fl. 1 and 2, and cl. 1) – Despite the meter indication in sustaining meter, there should be no metric accents on "strong beats". – The duration of the piece is approximately 11” – The assigned dynamics reflect the final level of loudness, e.g., all instruments marked pp should together make pp, producing a homogenous quality of fused timbre. BRASS – All brass instruments use straight mutes at some point. – Horns II and IV need also brass mutes. – Trumpets and trombones need cup mutes in addition to straight ones. PIANO – All clusters are chromatic clusters, top and bottom notes are indicated. – The exact pitches of the finger glissandi on strings depends on the model of the piano. STRINGS – All strings but double basses are divisi a 2 almost throughout. In mm. 128–135 divisi a 4 may be preferred. In some cases where double stops are used, the part division is indicated by brackets: [upper part on left and lower part on right] PERCUSSION – The three percussionists should be located along the back part of the stage (left, middle, right) in order to achieve antiphonal effects in the percussion dialogues. – The percussion instruments are notated like this: Perc I Perc II Perc III
