St. Paul's Letter to Titus 3:8-15

Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous. Verse: Blessed are they whose transgressions have been forgiven.

TITUS, my son, the saying is sure. I desire you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to apply themselves to good deeds; these are excellent and profitable to men. But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels over the law, for they are unprofitable and futile. As for a man who is factious, after admonishing him once or twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is self-condemned.

When I send Artemas or Tychicos to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to apply themselves to good deeds, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not to be unfruitful.

Εὐφράνθητι ἐπὶ Κύριον, καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε δίκαιοι. Στίχ. Μακάριοι, ὧν ἀφέθησαν αἱ ἀνοµίαι.

Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος, καὶ περὶ τούτων βούλοµαί σε διαβεβαιοῦσθαι, ἵνα φροντίζωσιν καλῶν ἔργων προΐστασθαι οἱ πεπιστευκότες θεῷ. ταῦτά ἐστιν καλὰ καὶ ὠφέλιµα τοῖς ἀνθρώποις · µωρὰς δὲ ζητήσεις καὶ γενεαλογίας καὶ ἔριν καὶ µάχας νοµικὰς περιΐστασο, εἰσὶν γὰρ ἀνωφελεῖς καὶ µάταιοι. αιῥετικὸν ἄνθρωπον µετὰ µίαν καὶ δευτέραν νουθεσίαν παραιτοῦ, εἰδὼς ὅτι ἐξέστραπται ὁ τοιοῦτος καὶ ἁµαρτάνει, ὢν αὐτοκατάκριτος. Ὅταν πέµψω Ἀρτεµᾶν πρὸς σὲ ἢ Τυχικόν, σπούδασον ἐλθεῖν πρός µε εἰς Νικόπολιν, ἐκεῖ γὰρ κέκρικα παραχειµάσαι. Ζηνᾶν τὸν νοµικὸν καὶ Ἀπολλῶν σπουδαίως πρόπεµψον, ἵνα µηδὲν αὐτοῖς λείπῃ. µανθανέτωσαν δὲ καὶ οἱ ἡµέτεροι καλῶν ἔργων προΐστασθαι εἰς τὰς ἀναγκαίας χρείας, ἵνα µὴ ὦσιν ἄκαρποι. Ἀσπάζονταί σε οἱ µετ ᾽ἐµοῦ πάντες. Ἄσπασαι τοὺς φιλοῦντας ἡµᾶς ἐν πίστει. ἡ χάρις µετὰ πάντων ὑµῶν.

The Lord said to his disciples, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

Εἶπεν ὁ Κὐριος τοῖς ἑαυτοῦ µαθηταῖς· ῾Υµεῖς ἐστε τ ὸ φῶς το ῦ κόσµου. ο ὐ δύναται π όλις κρυβῆναι ἐπάνω ὄρους κειµένη·οὐδὲ καίουσι λύχνον καὶ τιθέασι αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τὸν µόδιον, ἀλλ᾿ ἐπὶ τὴν λυχνίαν, καὶ λάµπει πᾶσι τοῖς ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ.οὕτω λαµψάτω τὸ φῶς ὑµῶν ἔµπροσθεν τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ὅπως ἴδωσιν ὑµῶν τὰ καλὰ ἔργα καὶ δοξάσωσι τὸν πατέρα ὑµῶν τὸν ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς. Μὴ νοµίσητε ὅτι ἦλθον καταλῦσαι τὸν νόµον ἢ τοὺς προφήτας· οὐκ ἦλθον καταλῦσαι, ἀλλὰ πληρῶσαι.ἀµὴν γὰρ λέγω ὑµῖν, ἕως ἂν παρέλθῃ ὁ οὐρανὸς καὶ ἡ γῆ, ἰῶτα ἓν ἢ µία κεραία οὐ µὴ παρέλθῃ ἀπὸ τοῦ νόµου ἕως ἂν πάντα γένηται.ὃς ἐὰν οὖν λύσῃ µίαν τῶν ἐντολῶν τούτων τῶν ἐλαχίστων καὶ διδάξῃ οὕτω τοὺς ἀνθρώπους, ἐλάχιστος κληθήσεται ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν· ὃς δ᾿ ἂν ποιήσῃ καὶ διδάξῃ, οὗτος µέγας κληθήσεται ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν.

We extend to our youngest altar server …..CHRONIA POLLA KAI EVTYCHISMENA! Many years of life and good health, to him and all in his family. He is among our finest young boys. HOW DO WE LOVE THEE? LET US COUNT THE WAYS: The unsung hero of much that goes on in volunteer work around the church and especially the altar cloths and sacred vessel such as washing, pressing, repairing, polishing and so much more is often taken for granted by most of us. However, we all owe a shout out of AXIA! AXIA! AXIA! to JULIA DEMAKAKOS who assumes all these chores with a happy smile and seeks no acknowledgment. WELL, God wants you to know who she is and rewards her fine example of outreach in anonymity. God bless her military husband and 3 grown sons. KEEP IT A SECRET! BOY SCOUT CAMP: Our Parish Troop #531 ’THE GOLDEN GREEKS’ will depart for their two week camping experience in nature from JULY 19th, through August 02nd. What a superb adventure for young boys 12 through 18 years of age to live in God’s nature and develop their strengths and combat their weaknesses. THIS IS CHARACTER BUILDING AT ITS BEST! Scoutmaster Dean Veroutis and other adult male advisors will escort the young lads on their ‘odyssey’ in the wooded wilderness. Is your child a part of our scouting program? SIGN UP TODAY! YOUR SON IS WORTHY. ALTAR BOY MOVIE NIGHT: as part of the summer activities planned for our SAINT STEPHANOS ALTAR BOY SOCIETY, some 26 young boys are celebrating dinner-movie night on Thursday, July 17 at 5:30 P.M. The youngsters will have dinner at KOUROS RESTAURANT (hamburgers, chicken fingers, French fries, soda, ice cream sundaes and then off to UNITED ARTISTS in SHEEPSHEAD BAY for a ‘thriller’ Adult chaperones will escort the group as usual. SUMMER SCHEDULE: Please be advised that starting Tuesday, July 1st, 2014 through Monday, September 8th, 2014 the Church COMMUNITY BUILDING complex will not be available after 4:00 P.M. If you would like to have a meeting in July or August please notify the Church Office at least a week before the scheduled meeting for permission and coordination, by calling (718) 339-0280 Monday - Friday 11A.M. to 4 P.M. The complex will be open ONLY from 7:00 P.M. – 10:00 P.M. after a prior request . There are absolutely no exceptions to this protocol. STAFF and CUSTODIAL HELP members will NOT BE ON DUTY UNLESS OTHERWISE ADVISED. PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Father Eugene WILL BE ON DUTY next Sunday, July 20th! However, Father will be on leave for SUNDAY – July 27th,in Chicago, Illinois Metropolis, and the following Sunday August 03rd, in Montenegro. He will be returning to full duty on Tuesday, August 05th, for the VESPER of TRANSFIGURATION. A replacement priest will serve in Fathers Eugene’s absence.
