JuniorWARRNIBALD2018 In 2018, Warrnambool Art Gallery (WAG) and Western District Employment Access (WDEA) are excited to announce the inaugural Junior Warrnibald. The Junior Warrnibald is a portrait competition, just like the Warrnibald, but for artists aged 18 and under. Artists will have the opportunity to create and exhibit a 2D portrait of someone in their lives who they look up to. Portrait subjects can be of anyone who inspires them. The subject must know and have a relationship with the artist, for example the artist’s subject could be a parent, a grandparent, a foster carer, a neighbour, a friend, a teacher, a doctor, a nurse, a shop owner etc. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Entries to the Junior Warrnibald must be by artists under the age of 18 at the time of submitting and can created using any material of the artist’s choosing (i.e. felt, pencil, paint etc.) but must be made on the Warrnambool Art Gallery’s specially-designed Junior Warrnibald art board. Junior Warrnibald art boards available for purchase from the Warrnambool Art Gallery from 10am Wednesday 4 th July to 3pm Friday 20 th July 2018 for $10 each. Art boards are limited and available until sold out. Purchase of the art board includes entry into the Junior Warrnibald. Artworks must be submitted along with the completed Artist Entry Form. Artists should also write their name, age and name of the sitter on the front of their work. $5 of each entry fee will be donated to WDEA to support their Artlink Program: an initiative that helps people with a range of abilities identify and achieve their creative goals, and promote the inclusivity of everyone in community life. MAKING AND SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY Artists can choose to make their entry at the Warrnambool Art Gallery (pencils provided only) or can complete their entries at home. Entries can be submitted at any time between 10am Wednesday 4 th July to 3pm Friday 20 th July 2018. Entries will be hung on the wall as they are received during weekday business hours (10am to 5pm). PRIZES All entries will be eligible to receive a prize in the artist’s age group. First and second prizes will be awarded in 4 age groups: - Up to age 5, - Ages 6-10, - Ages 11-15, and - Ages 16-18. The first prize winners in each age group will receive a cash prize of $100 from Commonwealth Bank Warrnambool. The second prize winners in each age group will receive a Darrian Office Choice Art Gift Voucher valued at $50. A special award will also be given to one artist whose work displays outstanding creativity. This winner will receive a cash prize of $100 and be given the opportunity to work with a local graphic designer to create a children’s mascot for the Warrnambool Art Gallery.

Artworks must be completed and submitted to the gallery by 3pm Friday 20th July 2018 to be eligible for a prize. JUDGING CRITERIAEntries will be judged by a panel of artists under the age of 18 with the WAG Director and guest professional artist on Saturday 21st July according to the following criteria:- The relevance of the submitted artwork to the theme, as decided by the judges;- Artistic interpretation of the theme, as decided by the judges; and- The originality of the submission.ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERSWinners will be announced at a special event between 1-2pm on Sunday 22nd July. Each prize winner will have their work included in the Warrnibald 2018 exhibition (28th July to 23rd September 2018).THE WDEA ARTLINK PROGRAMThe ArtLink program operates to support people with a disability or those experiencing disadvantage to express their artistic flair in a way they enjoy, and to produce works they have full ownership of. Artlink currently operates at 11 Albert St, Warrnambool on Mondays and Tuesdays amongst many other activities in a vibrant space created by the 17 artists who participate in it. 2018 Terms & Conditions

1. Eligibility The Junior Warrnibald is open entry portraiture exhibition and art prize for anyone under the age of 18 at the time of submitting their entry; Entries to the Junior Warrnibald are open to individuals residing in South-West Victoria; Entries can be portrait or landscape format; One entry per person will be accepted; Entries cannot be self-portraits; All entries must be made on the Warrnambool Art Gallery’s specially-designed

Junior Warrnibald art board. Entries can be produced using any medium (such as felt, paper, paint, textiles etc.), No sculpture will be accepted; Children of WAG and WDEA employees and volunteers are permitted to enter work in to the Warrnibald but are ineligible to receive any prizes; Entries must be accompanied by a completed Artist Entry Form, including a signature of entry approval from a parent or guardian Entries must state the artist’s name, age and name of sitter on the front of the

work; Artworks that that do not meet the above eligibility criteria will not be eligible for exhibition;2. Key Dates The Junior Warrnibald opens 10am Wednesday 4th July 2018; Entries must be completed and received by no later than 3pm Friday 20th July; Prize winners will be announced at between 1-2pm Sunday 22nd July. Late entries will not be accepted.

3. Exhibition Dates The Junior Warrnibald will open 10am Wednesday 4th July and close 3pm Sunday 22nd July; Work submitted to the Junior Warrnibald must be available for exhibition during these dates; Works that receive a Junior Warrnibald prize must also be available for exhibition during the Warrnibald 2018: 10am Saturday 28th July to 3pm Sunday 23rd September 2018. The Gallery can take no responsibility for any loss or damage to an artwork entry while in its custody or in transit.

4. Entry Fees An entry fee of $10 is payable upon purchase and collection of the antique picture frame cut-out; $5 out of each entry fee paid will be donated to WDEA for their ArtLink Program.

5. Copyright By entering work into the Junior Warrnibald, entrants are declaring that they are the sole creator and owner of the entered artwork and have not breached copyright in the creation of the work; Artwork entered must be original an uncopied work. Images of the subject must be obtained directly (i.e. in-person sketches from personal photographs) and not from other sources (magazines, the internet etc.);

Artworks that are found to breach copyright will be excluded from the Junior Warrnibald exhibition and art prize; The WAG will provide the artist whose work has been excluded from exhibition with the option of a full refund of their entry fee.

6. Media, Marketing and Promotion By entering work in to the Junior Warrnibald, parents or guardians of entrants allow personal information provided to the WAG and WDEA to be used for marketing and promotion of the exhibition and art prize;

7. Awards In 2018, first and second prize winners will be awarded in the following age categories:- Up to age 5- Ages 6-10- Ages 11-15- Ages 16-18- A special award will also be given to one artist whose work displays an outstanding creativity. Prize winners will be announced at a special event on:

1-2pm Sunday 22nd July 2018 The first prize winners in each age group will receive a cash prize of $100 from Commonwealth Bank Warrnambool. The second prize winners in each age group will receive a Darrian Office Choice Art Gift Voucher valued at $50. The special award winner will receive a cash prize of $100 and be given the opportunity to work with a local graphic designer to create a children’s mascot for the Warrnambool Art Gallery. Prizes cannot be transferred. Gift cards will be given to a parent or guardian, who may be asked to sign the card. Non-cash prizes cannot be redeemed for cash. In the event that for any reason whatsoever a finalist/winner does not take an element of the prize at the time stipulated by the Gallery then that element of the prize will be forfeited by the finalist/winner and cash will not be awarded in lieu of that element of the prize. The Gallery shall endeavour to contact the finalists by phone or email within one day of the prize judging. In the event that a finalist/winner cannot be contacted by 11am 22 Sunday July 2018, the prize will be forfeited by that entrant.

8. Sales Sales will not be processed on works entered into the Junior Warrnibald.

9. 10. Collection of works Works that are not awarded a prize must be picked up from Warrnambool Art Gallery at one of the following times:

10am to 5pm Friday 27th July 201810am to 3pm Saturday 28th July 2018

WAG may dispose of any entry (including those of finalists and winners) in any manner it deems fit if artworks are not collected from the gallery by 3pm Saturday 28th July 2018. WAG shall be under no liability whatsoever to the entrant in respect of the artwork so destroyed or disposed of.
