Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Feb 14: Jammu Justice Secular Forum (JJSF) held protest demonstration against the alleged discrimina- tion in selection process of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) at GGM Science College hostel ground, here today. The protest was led by Vikram Singh Chib, Provincial President JJSF under the supervision of Advocate Pushvinder Singh Manhas, State President JJSF. Addressing the media per- sons, Vikram Singh said that discrimination is being observed in selection process, adding that the Association is hiring players from outside the State, leaving the local crick- eters in the lurch. Clinton, Vice President JJSF, Jammu Province said that the players from outside the State should be removed from the team. The protest among others was attended by Clinton, Sr. Vice President JJSF Jammu Province, Sagar, Shubam, Vikas, Sachin, Nitin, Akhil, Lalit, Nitin Opinder, Atul, Abhmanyu, Hrithik, Prince, Ajay, Rahul, Aman and Rohit. Meanwhile, prominent office bearer of JKCA while expressing anonymity said had there been discrimination in team selection, the perform- ance of the team would have been dismal, adding that J&K performed brilliantly and won three out of five matches in North Zone Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy recently, defeating for- midable sides like Delhi Punjab and Haryana. Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Feb 14: Jammu and Kashmir State Taekwondo Senior (boys and girls), Kyorugi and Poomsae team left Jammu today for Visakhapatnam to participate in the 35th Senior National Taekwondo (Kyorugi) Championships 2016-17 and 8th National Senior Poomsae Taekwondo Championships 2016- 17, being held from February 17 to February 19, 2017 at Swarna Bharathi Indore Stadium Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The Chairman J&K Taekwondo Association, Anil Gupta (Anu), President PC Sharma and General Secretary, DN Pangotra and office bearers of the Jammu and Kashmir Taekwondo Association (JKTA) wished the young team a success in the forth- coming National Championship. The Screening of the team was done by Screening Committee of J&K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary J&K Sports Council Jammu and Rajan Sharma, Divisional Sports Officer. The soccer tournament for Jammu School students in which 10 schools namely APS Akhnoor, Jodhamal Public School, Little Flower School, Living Bethel School, BSF School Paloura, Heritage, JP World, KV Bantalab, KV-2 Jammu Cantt and KC Public School are participating, is being organized by the District Police Jammu under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) of J&K Police. The objective of the tourna- ment is to involve young chil- dren in sports activities and to provide them platform to show- case skill and talent. In tomorrow's fixture, Bethel Living School will take on BSF Paloura at 9. 30 am; KV-2 Jammu Cantt will face KC Public School at 10.30 am and Jodhamal Public School will face Little Flower School at 12.15 pm. 2800 players vying for top honours JK's maiden Rural Sports Competition under Khelo India scheme commences Excelsior Sports Correspondent SAMBA, Feb 14: The State's largest sports carnival under Khelo India scheme for under- 17 boys began at block level under Rural Sports Competition in nine blocks of district Samba today. Secretary Sports Council Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra said aim of the competition is to improve the pool of sportsper- sons at the grassroots level. As many as 2800 players from nine blocks of Samba district are par- ticipating in the competition. He said the block level com- petitions would be held in five sports disciplines including Kabbadi, Volleyball, Wrestling, boxing and Athletics. Officials informed that more than 350 players are participat- ing in the competition at M V International School, from dif- ferent villages of Block Vijaypur including 11 teams of Volleyball, 10 teams of Kabbadi, 43 players in Wrestling, 60 Players in Athletics and 35 Players in Boxing. "To identify and hone talent in rural Jammu and Kashmir, various competitions are sched- uled to be held at Block, District and State level in the coming months and the selected teams will later participate in the National Level Sports Competition Games," Parra informed, adding that Government is committed to promote sports activities and develop sports infrastructure in every nook and corner of the State. Around 79 universities from 5 zones covered under AIU participated in this presti- gious national event to show- case the talent of youth. In a tough competition, the team of Jammu University secured first position for the Skit "Kuch To Socho" and received high appreciation from the audience and Judges for performance and for its originality and simplicity of theme. The skit in a very inquisi- tive manner reflected on differ- ent issues like demonetization, women empowerment, pollu- tion, corruption etc. in a satiri- cal manner. Jammu University team was headed by Prof. Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare. The skit was written and directed by Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor) and Kulbhushan Thakur managed the lights and sound. MUMBAI, Feb 14: Leg-spinner Amit Mishra's injury-forced omission was the lone change as the national selectors today retained the formidable Indian squad, which hammered Bangladesh, for the first two Tests against Australia starting February 23. Mishra had to sit out of the Bangladesh Test owing to a knee injury, which had prompt- ed selectors to bring in Kuldeep Yadav as cover. With Mishra still not fit, the selection committee, headed by MSK Parasad, retained Yadav in the 16-member squad for the first two games against Australia. The matches are to be played in Pune (February 23- 27) and Bangalore (March 4-8) respectively. Pacer Mohammed Shami, who was undergoing rehabili- tation with the team before being forced to leave for him owing to his father's death, has also not found a place in the squad. Shami had undergone a surgery to recuperate from a career-threatening knee injury. The soccer tournament forJammu School students in which10 schools namely APSAkhnoor, Jodhamal PublicSchool, Little Flower School,Living Bethel School, BSFSchool Paloura, Heritage, JPWorld, KV Bantalab, KV-2Jammu Cantt and KC PublicSchool are participating, isbeing organized by the DistrictPolice Jammu under the CivicAction Programme (CAP) ofJ&K Police.

SAMBA, Feb 14: The State'slargest sports carnival underKhelo India scheme for under-17 boys began at block levelunder Rural Sports Competitionin nine blocks of district Sambatoday.

Secretary Sports CouncilWaheed-ur-Rehman Parra saidaim of the competition is toimprove the pool of sportsper-sons at the grassroots level. Asmany as 2800 players from nineblocks of Samba district are par-ticipating in the competition.

He said the block level com-petitions would be held in fivesports disciplines includingKabbadi, Volleyball, Wrestling,boxing and Athletics.

Officials informed that morethan 350 players are participat-ing in the competition at M VInternational School, from dif-ferent villages of Block Vijaypurincluding 11 teams of

Volleyball, 10 teams of Kabbadi,43 players in Wrestling, 60Players in Athletics and 35Players in Boxing.

Leg-spinner Amit Mishra'sinjury-forced omission was thelone change as the nationalselectors today retained theformidable Indian squad,which hammered Bangladesh,for the first two Tests againstAustralia starting February 23.

Mishra had to sit out of theBangladesh Test owing to aknee injury, which had prompt-ed selectors to bring inKuldeep Yadav as cover.

With Mishra still not fit, theselection committee, headedby MSK Parasad, retainedYadav in the 16-member squadfor the first two games againstAustralia.

The matches are to beplayed in Pune (February 23-27) and Bangalore (March 4-8)respectively.
