Collin, Manual of systematic eyelid surgery, 3rd edition Butterworth-Heinemann, 2006, 264 pages, 150 illustrations (ISBN 0-7506-4550-4) $69.95 US dollars Published online: 27 June 2006 # Springer-Verlag 2006 Richard Collin has, once again, updated his eyelid surgery book. This third edition is indeed a manual. It is precise and to the point. There are no references because there is no need to delve any further into the literature. It is all herethe anatomy, the problems, and the various methods available to solve the problems! The chapter style is refreshing. The problem is pre- sented, analyzed, and the accepted methods to deal with the problem are discussed and illustrated by line drawings. There are no photographs and as mentioned above no references. Complications are comprehensively discussed. The line drawings are simple, accurate, and effective. They will be invaluable to the novice and helpful even to the experienced. Flow charts are provided which lead to various solu- tions, depending on physical findings. Each technique is discussed under principle, indications, method, and com- plications. This makes for ease of reading and, in addition, is helpful in comparing techniques. This style makes for rapid assessment of the available techniques and helps to determine which is most suitable. This relatively small paperback textbook of 264 pages is filled with useful information. It could be carried into the operating room where the excellent diagrams could be perused as necessary. It is very refreshing to have a reasonably priced textbook of moderate size containing all you need to know about this subject presented clearly and succinctly by an international authority. I, fortunately, am able to keep this volume; otherwise, I would want to acquire this book in spite of having been working in this area for the past 50+ years. I.
