Our family at the Journey - either with their life group or on their own (it makes a great family activity!) - can help a family who otherwise might not have a Christmas dinner by donating a Christmas Basket. If you & your family or your life group would like to help, please pick up a basket! A list of suggested items is included. We will be filling them with enough food to feed a family of four (4). And be sure to sign up that you’ve taken a basket on the sign up sheet provided - we need to register each basket with Koinonia so they know how many they have to give away. Baskets need to be returned filled up by Sunday December 21st. For more information, contact Judy Davis at [email protected].

Opportunities to Serve

Interesting in serving, but not sure what opportunities are available here at the Journey? Here is a brief list:

Journey Kidz - Not just for those who can teach! We also need people to assist leaders in classes, greet & assist families as they check-in, care for sleeping babies, and play with energetic toddlers, in addition to behind the scenes tasks like box prep each week. POC: Michelle D’Angelo, Children & Family Pastor, [email protected] Refuel - Again, you don’t have to know how to teach to show our teens how to love God. We have weekly lessons and monthly or quarterly events where we need volun-teers to encourage and have fun with our teens. POC: Adam Schuster, Worship & Youth Pastor, [email protected] Worship - Singers, musicians, sound, & media are all areas where you could use your talent during our services! We provide training on the sound & media equipment, and the praise team is a great place to serve by using your gift of music. POC: Adam Schuster, Worship & Youth Pastor, [email protected] Food & Fellowship - If you enjoy baking, setting up for food-related events like a chili cook-off, and creating a atmosphere of hospitality, this is a great area to use your gifts! POC: Vicki Becker, [email protected] Meal Train - We have a team that provides meals to those in our church family that have had a new baby, had surgery or had any other circumstance arise that put them in need of meal support. You decide which meals you can provide though a website that coordinates who needs meals on particular days. POC: Ramy Ruiz & Lisa Steedsman, [email protected] Communion Prep - Are you more of a behind the scenes kind of person? We need peo-ple to prep & set up communion before 1st service and between services, and people to clean up after 2nd service. POC: Judy Davis, [email protected] Greeters & Parking Lot Duty - We always need friendly faces to greet members and visitors, hand out bulletins, and answer questions that visitors may have as they enter the church. Or, if you would rather, you can help direct cars in the parking lot between services to help keep everyone safe. POC: Jim Pruitt, Connexion Ministries Coordinator, [email protected] Ushers - Another behind the scenes opportunity, you could serve as an usher in one of our two services to ensure that the worship service runs smoothly. POC: Gabe Stewart, [email protected] Handyman Ministry - If you enjoy working with your hands and blessing others with the gift of service, this a the perfect ministry for you! We assist those in our church who need help with small electric, plumbing, home, and car repair and improvement, and can even help with moving! POC: Ray Mullins, [email protected]

Sermon Outline

The Red Queen of Alice and Wonderland, “Now here, you see, it takes all the running you can do to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that.” Matthew 11:28-30 (CEV), “ If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light.” We have to come to Jesus

Isaiah 40:29-31 (MSG), “He energizes those who get tired, gives fresh strength to dropouts. For even young people tire and drop out, young folk in their prime stumble and fall. But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, they run and don't get tired, they walk and don't lag behind.” Matthew 6:6, “Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and as honest as you can manage. And the focus will shift from you to God and you will begin to sense His grace.” We have to give up control

First…it’s a symbol of partnership

Sermon Outline

The second thing is this…it’s a symbol of control Psalm 55:2, “Pile your troubles on God’s shoulders and He’ll carry your load and help you out.” We need to learn from Jesus

Matthew 11:28, “Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gen-tle and humble, and you will find rest.” Three main areas that display the humility of Jesus that can help us establish some rest:

The first is… His focus was on the Father’s will, not His own _____________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________

“I came down from heaven to do what God wants me to do, not what I want to do.” (John 6:38 NCV) “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”(Matthew 26:39 NLT) “Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn't think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly hum-bling process. He didn't claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifix-ion.” (Philippians 2:5-8 MSG)

“My God, I want to do what you want. Your teachings are in my heart." (Psalm 40:8 NCV) Secondly… His focus was on others, not on Himself

_____________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________

“Do not look out only for yourselves. Look out for the good of others also.” (1 Corinthians 10:24 NCV)

Page 8: JourneyFL November 29 - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/thejourney3/documents/JourneyFL_Nov29.pdf · Need a daily devotional? This monthly women's devotional magazine offers guidance

“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than your-selves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” (Philippians 2:3-4 NLT…)

Thirdly… His focus was on serving, not being served.

“I've laid down a pattern for you. What I've done, you do. I'm only pointing out the obvious. A servant is not ranked above his master; an employee doesn't give orders to the employer. If you understand what I'm telling you, act like it—and live a blessed life.” (John 13:15-17 MSG) Reflection… _____________________________________________________________________________
