Stars of the month are once again "BIGGIES". The Invicta Vanguard G-AZRE onthe 14th did a night stop before transporting 129 pigs to the continent via Manston. On the 13th Air Freights Dakota took a somewhat smaller load of pigs to Zagreb.Hercules N9262R on the 23rd. belongs to Alaska International Air and was taking outdrilling equipment from Cameron Iron Works to the Middle East via Paris. Otherinteresting items were the new Cessna 310-2 N69714 which called in on the 9th usingcallsign "FLO-AIR 058", the c/n is 0936 and it dropped something off for Northairwhilst en route from Shannon to France. /mother 310 was 69638 on the 11th., thistime a "Q," model from Blackpool to Brussels. On the 31st N78348 was an AeroCommander 680FL which came in from the South and went out to Prestwick. Aztec G-BASKhas been in use with Northair during the month and Aztec G—ARYF which arrived on the9th has been parked outside Northair ever since. Their American registered specimenN40532 is noYJ G-BBWK and it did a radio check as such on the 30th. Cessna F150G-BBKE went to Wickenby on the 15th and has not been noted returning so it may havebeen sold. Cherokee G-ASHX arrived from Barton on the 9th and is still present.Cessna 206 G-.lZWV, which was damaged at Cark last year, finally returned on the 15thafter standing out in the open for about six months awaiting a prop. Also on the 15tha non radio Cessna 150 arrived from Sherburn but went un-logged by us. Seneca G-BADFon the 26th brought in a kidney from Glasgow at about 0045 hoursI

LEEMING The C.A.W. at Manby is to close and their Jet Provosts will be movinghere shortly.

LINTO'N ON OUSE According to British Aviation Review the gate guardian VampireT.11 XD515/7998M is due to be moved soon.

- 5 -NETHBRTHORPE luster J/1N Alpha G-ABHP is believed to have arrived here on15th December as a new resident fron Swanton Merely, prior to which it was basedat Doncaster.

SHACKLETON'S SCRAP YARD In an effort to obtain some bits and pieces for ourFlying Flea the editor and Dave Allan visited the Yard on 2nd Februaryguided there by Len Spice. It was a terrible day, cold and wet so we didn't staytoo long, managing only to obtain a few instruments, R.P.M. gague from a Meteor,a turn ans slip indicator and two others. There were many Vulcan parts about, themost complete sections being flaps and a fin bearing the maintenance serial7912M. One other piece of metal bore the serial XH570 from a Canberra B.6 ( thisis now on display at Yeadon Aeroplanes' workshop). Wessex HU5 XT774/F stillremains in a fairly intact condition as does Whirlwind HAS 7 XL860/57 of theNavy, both have been here since January of 1973 at least. One other find of greatinterest was the fuselage section of Cessna 337 G-AXGI formerly of the StarGroup of Companies and based at Yeadon, the aircraft crash landed at Dorchesteron 6th August 1969 most of the remains being with Northair until theirdisposal recently.

SHERBURN New aircraft registered to Eastern Aviation are as followsG-BEBU c/n 476 AA-5$ G-BBUF c/n 480 AA-5; G-BBUH c/n 310 AA-1B; G-BBUI c/n474 AA-5; G-BBWZ c/n 334 AA-1B. The editor with Dave Allan paid a visit tothe airfield on 5"th February, it is about six months since we had a decent report<^~~ activity here so there are many changes to come up to date with,'i. - Eastern Aviation hangar produced the most surprises, Piper Cub PH-TMAc/n 18-1483 has been purchased by Dave Blackburn and is currently undergoingextensive overhaul,it is being completely refabriced and will appear asG-BBYB on the British register. Aired ale G-AWGA which has been in the EasternAviation hangar for some time now is slowly being worked on and the fuselagehas been repaired and resprayed. Beagle Terrier 1 G-AVCR from Dishforth isbeing overhauled, the fuselage is to be recovered. The remains of Falco G-ASYMare still here, Cessna 150 G—BBCJ was here minus engine and various other bitsand pieces. Yankee G-AYHA has now been fully restored after its accident sometime ago and is finished overall yellow. Despite a report in Aviation Hewsand Review Chipmunk G-AOSO is not at St Just, Cornwall for a Lycoming but isalive and well here. Stampe G—AZCB is still minus prop. New addition to theSherburn Aero Club is Cessna 150H G-B3DT. Bensen Gyrocopter G-ATIB waspresent in one of the hangars, this normally resides somewhere in Huddersfield.

BUTTON BANK Piper Super Cub G-ARAN, normally based here, is at Shipdhamawaiting a new covering of fabric.

TEES-SIDE Jodel Dr. 1050 has departed to Sywell. Dan-Air Comet G-APDB~"ich made its last flight from here on 12th November has been ferried to.i shara and it will then be preserved, possibly at Duxford, in . ,BOAC colours. January movements:2 G-A2SO DH 114 Heron3 G-AZSO HeronG-AWLE Cessna 172

The work of such dedicated enthusiasts as Leslie Hunt, George Jonesand Gordon Riley has ensured that ready reference works are available to providea record of surviving aircraft, wrecks and relics of aviation in the UnitedKingdon and elsewhere and much effort is being applied to the very worthy task ofrecording aviation history from its earliest phases to the current date butlittle seems to have been done to note the many interesting memorials whichcommemorate historic events in aviation or individuals and crews who , in manycases lost their lives in flying accidents. Some which come readily to mind areCody's tree at Farnborough, the various memorials to Alcock and Brown and severalmemorials to pilots and crews in the Lincolnshire and East Anglian fields, I am

endeavouring to compile a list of these memorials - whether they be statues, plaques, stained glass windows or whatever - but so many of them are knownonly in a limited locality and I should be most grateful to any reader who mightbe able to supply me with any information about relevant items. With their helpI hope to build up for eventual publication as complete a record as may be possibleto fill what T believe to be an unfortunate gap in our knowledge of aviationhistory.
