• Objective– Learn how to demonstrate self-

leaders need.– Understand how body language and
tone of voice affect self-presentation.
INTERNAL EXTERNAL• The Internal Traits
include:• - Words that
describe who a person is inside
• - A person's fears• - A person's
motivations• - A person's
frustrations• - A person's feelings
• The External Traits include:
• - A person's appearance/physical features
• - What a person is good at
• - Where a person lives and with whom
• - Who a person is in life (their jobs)
Lesson 11 page 30 • Focus on the internal qualities
of a leader, not the external. Focus on the things you want to convey (say) such as: warmth, kindness, authority, knowledge and genuineness.
• You have to realize the ability to convey these qualities doesn’t just happen naturally. These things are conveyed through your use of the skills you possess.
• It’s not just a matter of knowing the right words to say, either.

WILL I LIE DOWN OR WILL I FIGHT? THE CHOICE IS MINE AND I CHOOSE TO FINISH STRONG."
Letter activity• Write a letter to Mrs. Westra or Mr.
Hatfield explaining how Teen Leadership has made a difference in your leadership skills.
• When finished, give the letter to me. I will deliver to them.
• Be sure this is your best work.• 10 minutes
Videotaped demo.
• It seems to me that, instead of fretting about what we’re going to say, we ought to be in front of a mirror working on our body language…working on how we’re going to say it!
• Again, what’s the purpose of all this? Is it to manipulate people so that I can have my way with them? Is it perhaps to impress them with how slick and skilled I am as a presenter? Is it because I want to impress my bosses so I can quickly climb to the top of the corporate ladder? Or is it maybe so I can sell them something and make some big bucks?
• Why is all this important?– Leaders what to build relationships. – Understand others needs– Make a difference– Leadership is about service
Quiz
• What are the 8 cues you need to be aware of when meeting someone for the first time so that you leave a good first impression with that person?
