JOSHUA TREAT, THE PIONEER SETTLER OX PENOBSCOT RIVER. Joshua Trent was the son of Joseph Treat, of Boston, born Sept, 23, 3720. He was half brother of Mnjor Robert Treat, an early settler in Bangor, Joshua learned the trade of gunsmith of his Hither, and aecrus to have been at Fort St, Gcorgea in 1750, where he was Armorer of Gipt, Jabez Bradley'a company from Aus- 30, 1750, to June 16, 1753, and later until 1759. He waa a skillful interpreter of the Indian language, and was one of thirty-two persona who witnessed the Treaty with the Indians Oct. 20, 1752. In 1759 he nccompanied Govern' r Pownal on his expedition to the Penobscot River, Fort Pownul was built this yenr at what is now Fort Point. Mr. Treat became Armorer there> He held a commission as Ensign in Capt. Geo, Berry's company from April 1, to July 16, 1759. In 1760, Dec- 17, he sent a petition to the General Court, (Mass, Archives 79 :332) asking renumerntion for money paid out while sick in the Province service, Iri bis petition he says he has been in service as Armorer at Fort Sfc» Georges upwards of ten years, that when Fort Pownal was built he was sent there, and was token sick in August, 1759 and removed to SL George, and from thence to Boston, and expended over £11 which he had paid himself; he asks for con- sideration tor this and also an addition to his wages. Joshua Trent was the son of Joseph Treat, of Boston, bornSept, 23, 3720. JOHN TREAT was born in Prospect, Aug. 22, 1775. He was asmall and energetic man, a Methodist and very religious.He lived in Prospect, removing to that part of Fraukfort nowWinterport, (1831.) He died in Hampden, April 11, 1870; hisgrave stone is in Hampden. He married first in Prospect, SarahSweetser. Jan. 1. 1799; she died Dec. 30, 1827, in Winterport.He married second, Mrs. Lucy(Porter)Littleneld, June 24,1829 ;she Was the widow of Aaron Littleneld, a soldier of the war of1812, who was drowned in the Pcnobscot River, at Frankfort;and daughter of Joseph Porter, of Frankfort; ahe died Feb. 12,
