Espero seguir comunicándoles el men-

quiere destruir tu matrimonio y tu vida. ¡Feliz Domingo del Señor! - Padre Abraham Guerrero

4 ° DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO

Page 4: Joseph Lyncha - container.parishesonline.com

Coolidge, Arizona 4

Good morning, brothers and sisters of St. James the Apostle. I apologize for

not translating my message in English these days. I hope to continue com-

municating the message of Christ through this medium, God bless you abun-

dantly.

Today the word of God speaks to us about the value and power of his word

communicated, transmitted and lived through his prophets and disciples. He

invites us to listen with our hearts to the word proclaimed by his disciples, and

he exhorts us, the messengers of his word, not to change his message at all,

that is, not to distort the message originality, if not to be in communion with

the Lord. Today’s Gospel tells us that the unclean spirit came out of the pos-

sessed man. I want to clarify the truths of faith that we must take so as not to

open doors to the enemy of God and of us.

When we discuss the belief and existence of the devil, we must distinguish two

levels: the intellectual level and the popular level. Our current situation seems

similar to that of the Middle Ages, of the XIV-XVI centuries, famous for the im-

portance of diabolical phenomena. The only difference us that we no longer have the inquisition processes, or

the bonfire for demoniacs, or for witches. But magical practices such as witchcraft, & Santeria, which give life to

the devil, continue to spread among the poor and popular classes, becoming a social and commercial phenom-

enon; Even the more it is driven out by faith, the more and more it takes hold in superstitious people. On the

other hand an Intellectual level, silence reigns over the devil for them; this evil being no longer exists.

An author named R. Bultmann wrote: in case of illness one cannot resort to medical and clinical means and at

the same time believe in the world of spirits? My dear Brothers and sisters for many intellectuals, it is difficult

for them to believe in the existence of the devil, because they look for him in books, but I want to remind you

that the Devil is not interested in books, but in souls. Saint Paul VI spoke out strongly about this dark agent and

enemy of God and of men: Evil is no longer just a deficiency, but an efficiency, a living, spirit, perverted and per-

verting being; Terrible, mysterious and a frightening reality .

I would also like to talk to you about a reality that is causing much confusion at this time. But the Church as

mother and teacher, to whom Jesus has entrusted the deposit of faith, has come to question the indiscriminate

practice of exorcism by people who have not received any mandate to exercise this ministry. Our cities are full of

people who exorcism, many of them, boast of removing "spells, evil eye, bad luck of people, houses, companies,

and commercial activities.

My brothers and sisters, I am surprised that, in a society like ours, so attentive to commercial fraud and willing to

report cases and abuses in the exercise of the profession, things like these are accepted. Today the word of God

teaches us that, in the synagogue of Capernaum, an unclean spirit that had possessed a man, and was exposed

and forced to leave the person, not because of magical arts, but because of the holiness of Jesus. St. Augustine

said: When the devil is accused he rejoices, indeed, he wants you to accuse him, and he gladly accepts your re-

crimination, to divert you from making your sacramental confession.

My beloved parishioners, the Catholic who lives in grace and is the temple of the Holy Spirit, is the bearer of the

Holiness of Christ, and it is the force of grace that operates, when you silently pray or intercede for the need of

someone oppressed by the evil.

May God, grant us to live in his grace and in his love so that the power of Christ may act in our lives and families

against every threat of evil. Remember that only God's grace is the antidote to drive out the evil that wants to

destroy your marriage and your life. Happy Sunday of the Lord ! - fr. Abraham Guerrero

4TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Page 5: Joseph Lyncha - container.parishesonline.com

5 Welcome to St. James the Apostle Catholic Church - Bienvenidos a St. James Iglesia Católica

Mass: Virtual Viewing: Did you know

that you are attending mass when you watch it

LIVE on your TV or on your computer or other

device? That's right, you are in attendance at the

mass while it is being said anywhere in the world

through our union with Christ in His mystical body.

But remember, it must be LIVE, occurring at the same time

you are viewing it. If it is a video of a mass previously said,

you are watching a video of the mass. You are not actually

attending the mass since it has already been completed. Isn't

that truly wonderful! We can attend mass at Lourdes or

Knock or EWTN or the Vatican or England or the Philip-

pines or anywhere else in the world as long as it is LIVE

while it is being broadcast throughout the world. Does that

take away our Sunday obligation? NO! We must still attend

mass on Sunday. Of course if we are sick or simply cannot

get to a mass on Sunday, we are not obligated to go. And

with this present Covid 19 pandemic, we are not obligated. If

we are healthy and our health is not compromised, please

attend mass if there is room based on social distancing. If we

cannot attend, we should be able to find a LIVE mass on TV

(you tube) etc. somewhere in the world or on St. James the

Apostle site: 7:00am and 6pm four days of the week , and

weekend masses.

What about during the week? Why not attend mass

while getting ready for work or getting the children ready for

school, or having coffee and breakfast. Even when traveling

to work in the car, why not listen to a mass LIVE on the ra-

dio. We can be sure that God will love our gift of attending

His sacrifice of the mass. Surely He will bless us and our

families for the extra effort we are making and the prayers

we are saying. We must remember that the mass is the

GREATEST prayer on earth. If we are retired or not work-

ing, what will we say to Christ when he asked us did you

attend mass sometimes during the week? How will we an-

swer that question? Extra efforts probably will please the

Lord because we are doing it out of love for him. Would we

visit a close friend or call them during the week to say “Hi.”

and have a conversation?

How is the mass the greatest prayer on earth? We are direct-

ly connected to Christ's sacrifice on the cross for our salva-

tion. How is that possible? God, in Jesus, is NOT bound by

time. All time is known to God. Since we are with God

through our baptism into the body of Christ, we are connect-

ed to his death on the Cross. We are united through time at

the changing of the bread and wine into the body and blood

of Christ. It is our faith and a mystery, created and revealed

by Jesus at the last supper. This is the transubstantiation, the

substance is changed but the appearance of bread and wine

remains the same. It is really the body and blood of Christ.

Finally, why physically go to mass if we can go vir-

tually? The first major item is that we can receive the body

and blood of Christ! And second, we are witnesses and sup-

port to our fellow Catholics of our faith and belief in the Eu-

charistic Mass. May we frequently attend this boundless

prayer to honor and love Jesus and for our own souls.
