He was born on 29 6th 1793 in Chrudim (a small town in the east part of the Czech republic) in a mixed marriage, his father was German and his mother was Czech.

His invention of the propeller was tested for the first time In Kostanjevica river Krka. In 1821 he was transferred to Trieste, where he became a local verderer and successfully continued with the tests. In He patented his invention in1827 but he obtained it in 1829, achieved with a modified liner port speed of six knots.
