Our teachings and philosophies are based on the writings of Cuban poet, educator and martyr José Martí, as well as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, César Chavez, Roberto Maestas and other community leaders. We use their messages of love and empowerment to involve our children in the process of eliminating the economic, racial, social and geographical barriers that divide the peoples of the world.
Social Justice & Community Involvement
We follow the traditions of the Latino community, but we have a strict non-discrimination policy and seek to learn from other cultures. Our curriculum reflects a “rainbow of cultures,” and we regularly participate in community and cultural events that help instill pride in one’s own culture, and respect and appreciation for others’ cultures.
Awareness of social justice issues is an integral part of our philosophy, which we integrate into the curriculum with daily activities and community events such as rallies and cultural events. We also host visitors from the community, state and country, as well as national and international artists, musicians, dancers and poets, whose teachings we incorporate into the curriculum in a developmentally-appropriate manner.

The Arts
We emphasize language acquisition through dai-ly life activities as opposed to formal lessons by using both languages in story-telling, music, reading and po-etry, as well as vocabulary and goals of our changing Themes of the Month. We actively promote communication in both languages between stu-dents, teachers, parents and volunteers.
We highly value diversity and multicultural values and traditions, so we strive to represent all of the children’s cultures in the classroom. We further encourage family participation, and we invite families to share cultures, traditions or activities in the classrooms whenever possible.
