Four months training on Tenerife, it was like a dream coming true,

spending a winter on a island full of wind and sun. Straight after I

joined the Point-7 Black Team I decided to take Tenerife as my

preperation for the next season. I was able to train with many

teamriders like Pascal Tosseli, Vincent Langer, Maciek Rutkowski and

the team boss Andrea Cucchi. When I’m looking back now I can only

say that it was the time of my life, I was able to fully focus on what I

want to do: windsurfing. But why is Tenerife so perfect for this?

During my time I’ve been able to sail all of my equipment many times,

which means my smallest stuff from 5.6 till my big stuff to 9.3. This

makes it perfect to trim, tune and get used to all of my equipment for

this year. Mostly we had the North East wind direction which is side-

shore and pretty choppy, probably sailing back on the lakes in Holland

will feel really easy! Sometimes we also had the South West winds,

which is offshore and delivers soms flatwater conditions. Most of the

time I was only sailing in El Medano, just a few times I took a trip to El

Tejita or Torviscas, but in general I had everything I needed in El

Medano. I think 75% of 4 months in Tenerife were windy which can’t

get much better.

In case there is no wind there’s still enough to do! I run up Montana

Roja quiet a lot of times and went for some bike rides up to the El Teide

(highest mountain of Spain). Beside that I was having some various

work-outs with ‘TRX‘ , a ‘insanity‘ program and Cross-fit.

The ‘Pro X training’ has been the biggest advantage of the whole trip.

For almost 3 months we were doing 3 days of competition training

every week. Mostly simulating real races while Sparky, the trainer, was

making videoshots so we could see after how we were racing.

Especially as a young rider it’s a perfect way to build up some

experience!

All together I’m super happy that I went to Tenerife and can’t wait for

the season to start. The PWA in Korea will be my first major event!

Really cool to travel to a country like Korea and hope that it delivers

some good conditions. I’m feeling prepared for it and can’t wait to go.

Keep an eye on my athlete page (Jordy Vonk / NED-69) to follow the

daily action !!
