Passing of the Peace (Please be mindful of each other’s physical boundaries as we pass the Peace)

Prayers of the people The Lord’s Prayer

Eternal Spirit, Earth-maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver, Source of all that is and that shall be, Father and Mother of us all, Loving God, in whom is heaven: The hallowing of your name echo through the universe! The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the world! Your heavenly will be done by all created beings! Your commonwealth of peace and freedom sustain our hope and come on earth. With the bread we need for today, feed us. In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us. In times of temptation and test, strengthen us. From trials too great to endure, spare us. From the grip of all that is evil, free us. For you reign in the glory of the power that is love, now and forever. Amen

Prayer of Thanksgiving

SHARING TOGETHER IN MEAL The Sacrament of Communion

Great Thanksgiving Prayer

Hear our prayers for the earth. Christ have mercy, Christ have mercy. Earth have mercy, Earth have mercy. Christ have mercy, Christ have mercy.

Invitation to the Table

Sharing the Bread and Cup

If you are able, please come forward to one of the communion stations. We will be receiving communion by intinction—after receiving the gluten free bread, dip it in either the chalice of white wine or the chalice of red grape juice. If you would like communion at your seat, someone will come to you. All who hunger for the presence of Christ in their life are welcome at this table.

Music for Communion (congregational singing) Come to the Table D. Pederson

Come to the table, come as you are! Come as you’re able: see whose child you are. There is room at the table of the Lord.

Bring your burdens and your cares, take them to the Lord in Prayer. In our weakness, God is there, can’t you see?

When you come to the table, come as you are! Come as you’re able: see whose child you are. There is room at the table of the Lord.

In the mercy that abounds and accepting love we’ve found; With the blessed tie we’re bound as family.

Won’t you come to the table, come as you are! Come as you’re able: see whose child you are. There is room at the table of the Lord.

One Bread, One Body Refrain: One bread, one body, one Lord of all; one cup of blessing which we bless, and we, though many throughout the earth, we are one body in this one Lord.

Gentile or Jew, servant or free, woman or man, no more. Refrain

Many the gifts, many the works, one in the Lord of all. Refrain

Grain for the fields, scattered and grown, gathered to one for all. Refrain Text: John Foley, SJ, b. 1939

Song of Blessing Canticle of the Turning My soul cries out with a joyful shout that the God of my heart is great, And my spirit sings of the wondrous things that you bring to the ones who wait. You fixed your sight on your servant’s plight, and my weakness you did not spurn, So from east to west shall my name be blest. Could the world be about to turn?

[Refrain] My heart shall sing of the day you bring. Let the fires of your justice burn. Wipe away all tears, for the dawn draws near, and the world is about to turn!

Though I am small, my God, my all, you work great things in me, And your mercy will last from the depths of the past to the end of the age to be. Your very name puts the proud to shame, and to those who would for you yearn, You will show your might, put the strong to flight, for the world is about to turn. [R]

From the halls of power to the fortress tower, not a stone will be left on stone. Let the king beware for your justice tears ev’ry tyrant from his throne. The hungry poor shall weep no more, for the food they can never earn; There are tables spread, ev’ry mouth be fed, for the world is about to turn. [R]

Though the nations rage from age to age, we remember who holds us fast: God’s mercy must deliver us from the conqueror’s crushing grasp. This saving word that our forebears heard is the promise which holds us bound, Til the spear and rod can be crushed by God, who is turning the world around. [R]

Salem Announcements—May 19, 2019

• Servant Trip Fundraiser Today after Worship! Be sure to stop in the Gathering Space after worship for a fundraiser meal! The South Dakota Servant Team will be hosting a meal where you can experience food, fun, and even some learning.

• Summer Worship This summer we will once again change our worship schedule from two services to one. Beginning NEXT WEEK Memorial Day Weekend (May 26) we will start to worship only at 9:00 am! We are looking forward to coming together this summer, sharing music styles and worship traditions, and most importantly, seeing everyone in the same room at the same time. Watch for some very special worship and service opportunities throughout the summer as well. During worship we will be assembling bee hotels, bagging dog food for MARS, writing encouraging notes to our neighbors, participating in letter writing for justice, and more. It’s bound to be a great summer for worship at Salem! Come join us where all are welcome.

• Theology on Tap (Taco Theology) Join us on Wednesday May 29 for our first Theology on tap after Easter. Since it was so good last time—let’s do Taco Lago at 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there!

§ Salem Scene The deadline for content for the June-Early June Scene is May 21. Folding will be Tuesday, May 28 at 10 am. All welcome!

§ Sanctuary Switch It’s that time again! On Monday, June 3 in the morning, we’ll be moving from Garden Sanctuary to South Sanctuary for the summer months. Many hands make light work—please plan to come and help if you are able.

§ Open Streets on Lyndale - June 2 Sunday, June 2 is Open Streets on Lyndale Avenue between 22nd Street and 42nd Street from 11 am -5 pm. Lyndale Avenue will be closed between these points (with the exception of occasional places for cars to cross, most likely 28th Street is one). Biking, walking, yoga, strolling, blading, catching up with friends, and some good people watching. We’ll get out our banners, pass out popsicles and enjoy the fun of being church in an eclectic and active neighborhood. The Discover Band will also play. Please join in that day, and sign up if you can help out. Plan your route to church and parking accordingly. Donations are also welcome to help cover the cost of providing this ministry to the neighborhood. This is a great chance to connect to the neighborhood! For more information or questions, please contact Josh Jorstad, [email protected] or 715-505-2345.
