What is Joint-Use?

A partnership between a school and another public or private entity who have a common goal where facilities or land are shared between the two

parties to the meet community’s need.

Why Joint-Use?• Reduce the incidence of childhood obesity• Increase physical activity • Encourage schools to become neighborhood

Common Projects• A community organization needs space, a local

elementary school needs to enrich the after school program.

• A school keep its gymnasium open after hours in the winter for students and community members to use after hours on weekdays and weekends.

• A charter school needs a gymnasium, a nearby church needs more resources for the gymnasium upkeep.

Arkansas Joint-Use Success Stories• Springdale- Neighborhood school

partnering with the city to enrich the campus to renovate the outdoor tennis, basketball, and soccer facilities.

• Gurdon- Rural School

partnering with the city to enrich the campus and to install a walking trail between the middle school and high school campus.
