STAFF APPLICATION 2019-20There are some great things ahead for this program, and we are so excited for your interest in becoming a potential member of the team.

Deadlines and details are very important in the world of journalism. Make sure you read through all directions and note dates associated with the application process. Failure to meet the given deadlines will most likely hurt your application. Details are important as well. Make sure to read the entire application. Not only is this crucial so you are able to fill things out correctly, it’s also important so you know what you are getting yourself into.

We wish you all the best of luck and will be available daily for any questions you might have. Please feel free to come talk to us in room 105 and we will try to help you to the best of our ability.

Thanks for your time and good luck.

Sincerely, Aaron Manfull and Jordyn KielFHN Media Advisers [email protected]@fhsdschools.org

A NOTE FROM US 3 STEP PROCESS

A FEW DETAILS & DEADLINES

PLEASE SIGN

1. Fill out the online application form for at: http://FHNtoday.com/signmeup

2. Sign the bottom of this form and have a parent sign it.

3. Turn in this form AND two samples of your work if you are not currently on staff (this can be writing, design, photography, Web pages you’ve created, etc.)

Q: WHAT’S THE PROCESS HERE? A: Applications began being distributed Nov.19. Applications for those wishing to be on staff are due Jan. 16. Priority applications are due Dec. 14. Applications will be due by 2:30 p.m. (If you are applying to be an editor, those applications are due Dec. 14). Applications must be handed to Aaron Manfull or Jordyn Kiel, journalism advisers. There will be a couple of meetings to answer questions and explain the process. The afternoon meeting will be on Tues. Dec. 11 at 2:30 p.m. and the morning meeting will be Weds., Dec. 12, at 6:50 a.m. Attendance is highly suggested and the meetings will begin promptly so they don’t run long. Staff lists will be posted by 8 p.m., Jan. 21, on FHNtoday.com. Q: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN EDITOR AND A GENERAL STAFF MEMBER?A: Staff editors are in charge of different parts of the publication. They have more responsibilities than general staff members. Typically, editors have been general staff members and worked their way up to become editors. Q: DO I HAVE TO HAVE TAKEN THE JOURNALISM CLASS BEFORE BECOMING A MEMBER OF STAFF?A: At this point, individuals who have taken Journalism, Journalism II and/or Photojournalism will be given priority. If you don’t make staff this year, enroll in one of the introductory Journalism courses next year and then you should be a lock for staff the following year or even second semester if spots open up. Newspaper and Yearbook are much easier if you have had Journalism prior to joining staff.

Please read and sign and have one of your parents/guardians read and sign below. I have read page the staff application and understand the basic details that have been outlined. By signing this form I also acknowledge that being a member of an FHN Media staff requires more than just normal homework. Newspaper, Yearbook, Web, Ads, Photo and Video are co-curricular activities. Students may be required to attend after hours school activities to cover them. There is a business/advertising curricular component to this course as well. Not often, but sometimes your student will be required to stay after normal school hours to finish work. All staff members will be encouraged, but not required, to attend summer camps or training sessions to make the publications and themselves better. Having said all that, the staff should be a place where students can grow their skillsets, become better communicators, make friends and have some fun along the way.
