JOHN TEUTEN 1838-1839 The Queen vs Joseph Reitterhoffer alias Count Rutter & John Teuten In 1838 John Teuten was found guilty of conspiracy and libel to extort money from the Marquess of Downshire and his family. The trial was widely reported in the newspapers of the day. John Teuten (John Gottfried Schroeter Teuten) was sentenced to fifteen months in prison. Early in 1839 a Petition for Clemency was brought before a judge, together with a letter of entreaty for mercy from his wife. The petition appears to have been successful.

1838-1839 The Queen vs Joseph Reitterhoffer alias Count Rutter & John Teuten
In 1838 John Teuten was found guilty of conspiracy and libel to extort money from the
