Almost 78% of the 40 folks we surveyed said that they would be interested in learning how to repair and prevent a
leaky toilet.
Problem Statement (in so many words)
A leaky toilet can cause water damage & high water bills.
Rationale for Instruction
Some people prefer face to face instruction and hands on tasks rather than using the Internet
and books or videos.
Goal StatementLearners will be able to generate a correct assessment and repair of a
leaky toilet, as well as learn preventive maintenance to avoid
costly damage in the future.
Course Level Design:Leaky Toilet Repair for the DIY-er
Course Objectives:
Learners will generate an independent assessment of a leaky toilet to best address the problem.
Learners will generate a complete DIY repair of a leaky toilet and demonstrate routine maintenance.

Learners can demonstrate a complete toilet repair with
assistance from the instructor.

Learners will properly summarize the toilet components & describe their
functions with 80% accuracy.

No prior experience with toilet repair, no specialized skills or tools.
Instruction takes place at the Home Depeaux, final outcome takes place at one’s residence
the target learners are renters and homeowners—landlords do not always pay for water bills or all collateral damage

Three experts evaluated for content, accuracy, and flow.
They said to make the lesson more specific & to only focus on toilet parts that would
be significant to learners.
Changes were made to the power point lesson before moving on to the one-on-one evaluation.
One on one Three learners reviewed the lesson & were told to
ask questions and/or make suggestions.
They suggested that the sequence should be changed & that some slides were redundant. All three made similar suggestions in this regard.
More changes to the lesson were made before moving on to small group evaluation.
Small Group
A small group reviewed the Ppt lesson w/ minimal instruction, & advised to look at a real toilet afterward, & give feedback.
Suggestions were made to add information that was depicted in picture, but not explained in words, to swap the order of two slides, & to include renters.
All suggestions were appreciated & final changes were made to the power point lesson.

• Students use a real working toilet to practice prevention & maintenance
Conclusion
Armed with a new skill learners can tackle some toilet repair, and preventive maintenance
in their own homes, and may even be able to teach others.
