FROM THE PASTOR

A MESSAGE FROM FATHER COSTA March 25, 2020

I will lead the blind on their journey; by paths unknown I will guide them. I will turn darkness into light before them, and make crooked ways straight.

These things I do for them, and I will not forsake them. (Isaiah 42:16) This passage from Isaiah gave me great comfort when praying Morning Prayer recently. God gave the people of Isaiah’s time the assurance that “by paths unknown I will guide them,” and He does the same for us. Our world has been turned upside down with the corona virus impacting our daily living in every respect. I was familiar with the word posttraumatic stress, but recently heard the term post-traumatic growth for the first time. God is inviting our faith and trust to grow from this experi-ence as He will “turn darkness into light and make crooked ways straight.” I know the suspension of public Mass has been a difficult hardship for you. Know that your priests are celebrating Mass every day for you and your intentions. Know too how much we love you and miss you at Mass. The first weekend Masses were suspended three families chose the keep the time originally scheduled for their baby’s baptism. The parents, sponsors and I were the only ones in church. On a Sunday when public Masses were not celebrated, Elowyn Agnes, Arthur Joseph, and April Elizabeth were a shining light of the Church’s Sacramental gifts for all of us! Their families demonstrate that we are always experiencing God’s loving presence in our lives. Although we are not gathering publicly for Mass, our Church is vibrant and alive. As we acknowledge the uncertainty facing us we trust that God is with us and guiding us. If you know a family or member of our Saint Agnes family who needs help with anything please let us know by contacting Barbara Kirby at [email protected]. A number of you have expressed a desire to be of loving service in any way. It is your generosity which enables Saint Agnes parish to continue our mission of faith here in West Chester. Thank you for your ongoing financial support of the parish in these challenging times. Please drop off your church contributions in the rec-tory drop-box door near the church on Gay Street anytime during the week or mail them directly to the parish office. You may enroll in electronic giving at https://www.saintagnesparish.org/ways-to-give We will continue to keep you updated on our website and social media. As this is being written we are celebrating the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, so may we follow our Blessed Moth-er’s example of what it means to be a disciple of her Son by encouraging and supporting each other as we are united in prayer each day. Let us all pray for God's healing blessings for all who are suffering from the corona virus infection around the world. In Christ’s love, Fr. Costa

SAINT AGNES UPDATES

These are updates or changes to the day-to-day operations of St. Agnes described in last week’s bulleting. CHURCH AVAILABILITY The church and chapel remain open daily from 8am until 3pm until we receive different directives

from the Archdiocese. As of right now, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in both locations from 8am until 3pm every Sunday to provide space for appropriate social distancing. The Sacra-ment of Reconciliation continues to be celebrated on Saturdays from 2 until 3pm.

FUNERALS Funerals will be handled on a case-by-case basis, again with due regard for the limitation of partici-

pants and reasonable social distancing.

ROUTINE OFFICE MATTERS The rectory and all parish offices are closed with lay staff working from home as they are able. All

routine office matters must be handled over phone, mail, or email. Phone messages are being

checked daily. You can leave a message on the main line by pressing “0”when prompted.

PREP AND CONFIRMATION At this time, all PREP has been suspended until further notice. Information can be found on the web-

site for how you can complete the year at home with your child.

Confirmation has been postponed until a later date.

PALM SUNDAY, HOLY WEEK, AND EASTER As you may have heard, the Archbishop has made the difficult decision that there will be no public celebrations of Palm Sunday or the Sacred Paschal Triduum, including Easter Sunday, this year. We are currently in the process of equipping our church to live-stream these services, which will be held in private. Please check the website and Facebook page for more updates about how you can partici-pate in Holy Week and Easter.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Ever consider becoming a member of the Knights of Columbus, #1333? If you are male, 18 yrs. old or older, and a practicing Catholic, please contact our New Financial Secretary Jim O’Melia [email protected] or 267-205-9749.

During the Coronavirus Outbreak and to minimize social distancing to keep everyone safe, the KofC Council Home will temporarily remain CLOSED to its members and to the public. Thank you for your understanding. Stay tuned for any changes.

Until further notice all other parish related activities & meetings are suspended.

Please remain connected, and let us know of parishioners that are in need.

OUTREACH SERVICES

Page 6 - 171

FROM OUTREACH SERVICES

As of this writing, we continue to provide for the basic needs of our poor and vulnerable neighbors. The Day Room remains open from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for take-out of prepared meals, food bags, diapers and formula, personal hygiene items and other basic needs. We are take-out only.

All of you who prepare meals or donate to our food bank, Healthy Baby Program and personal hy-giene or cleaning supplies, are providing an essential, life-sustaining service and are permitted to travel to and from the Day Room during the “Stay At Home” order.

Please know how grateful the people are who receive your kindness. We cannot count the times we have heard “Thank you for being here for us!” “Your presence is a comfort.” “Thank you for caring about us.”

Your prayers are a comfort. Your gifts of food and baby needs are a comfort. Please know that through these charitable acts you are present to those most in need. We are confident that it is Christ Himself who receives your gifts and it is He who will bless you.

For information on how you can best help or for updates please contact Barbara Kirby at [email protected] or Maire Holland at [email protected]. To help prepare meals for people in need email Luray Minciewicz at [email protected] or Mary Barcus at [email protected].

May God continue to bless you with His love and His grace and good health!

APOSTOLADO HISPANO

Page 7 - 171
