Father Charles Terence Quinn, O.P., died peacefully in the evening of Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Cabrini ElderCare in Dobbs Ferry, NY, at the age of 94. Fr. Quinn faithfully served the Church as a priest for over 60 years, serving in the missions in Pakistan and the Solomon Islands, as pastor of Holy Innocents Parish and Sacred Heart Parish, and Prior Provincial for two terms. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Quinn, and his sisters Maura Riordan and Sr. Eileen Kieran, O.P.
Father Quinn was born July 13, 1925, in the Borough of Queens, New York City, as the fourth child to James and Anna (née O’Reilly) Quinn and named Charles James. He attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School in Astoria, NY, and Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn, NY, and Yale University in New Haven, CT, for one year.
On May 25, 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy. In February 1946, he was commissioned as an ensign and received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. He served at sea in the Caribbean and was honorably discharged on June 11, 1947.
He entered the Dominican Novitiate in 1948, at St. Rose Priory in Springfield, KY, and received the religious name Terence. He made his first profession at St. Rose Priory on August 16, 1949, and his solemn profession at Precious Blood Parish in Monmouth, NJ, in 1952. He studied philosophy at St. Joseph Priory in Somerset, OH, followed by theology at the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. Quinn was elected Prior Provincial by the Provincial Chapter. He returned to the United States residing at St. Vincent Ferrer Priory while serving as provincial. He served for eight years being reelected on July 9, 1976.
In 1980, after completing his second term as provincial, Fr. Quinn moved to St. Mary Magdalene Rectory in Berkley, CA. In October 1981, he was assigned to Holy Name Priory in Philadelphia, PA, and assisted with parochial ministry. On October 1, 1982, Fr. Quinn was appointed pastor of Holy Innocents Parish in Pleasantville, NY, and superior of the Dominican community. He was reappointed for a second term on October 1, 1985.

ADVENT SPIRITUAL RETREAT AT HOLY INNOCENTS CHURCH with Fr. Frank Sutman, O.P.
November 17-21, 7:00pm
“All will be well, and all will be well, and every kind of thing will be well.”
Julian of Norwich and Crises in Our Lives.
Would a 14th century Catholic mystic have anything to say to our fractured post 9/11 world? Would the words of a survivor of wars and plagues 700 years ago, be of any use to us today? Would the life of a hermit help any of us to transfigure our losses that we face in life? Yes, yes, and yes, they would and
more than we might ever imagine. Come and join us as we spend prayerful and quiet time with the woman who saw all and came through it with a smile…
and a hazelnut!

This Friday, November 22nd, is the feast of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians, composers, instrument makers and poets. Her feast has been celebrated since 545 AD. According to legend, Cecilia was a noble Roman who had vowed her virginity to God as a child. When she was married against her will to the future St. Valerian, then a pagan, she told him that an angel of God wished her to keep her vow.
Although it is not clear if Cecilia could actually play an instrument, she is frequently depicted playing a viola, small organ or harpsichord. This is most likely to express what has been attributed to her, that while musicians played at her nuptials, she sat apart, and “sang to God in her heart”.
Many choral societies are dedicated to Cecilia and concerts are often held on her feast day. Cecilia has also become a symbol of the Church's conviction that good music is an integral part of the liturgy, of greater value to the Church than any other art.
St. Cecilia Pray for us!!
The Holy Innocents Giving Tree will be set up in the Social Hall for all Masses the weekend of December 1st.
All gifts collected are distributed to families in need living in the Highbridge Community in the vicinity of Sacred Heart Church in the
Bronx. Parishioners can select a gift tag from the tree. The Social Concerns Committee asks everyone to record their tag number on our list so we can be sure that every child receives their gift.
To ensure delivery in time for Christmas, your wrapped present, with the numbered tag attached, must be delivered to the rectory office by Friday, December 13th.
Your kindness and support for our social outreach is greatly appreciated.
Please join us for our 16th annual

Religious Education Time is just flying by! The children in our Program are learning that all time belongs to God and that we as Catholics strive to keep all time holy by following a Liturgical Calendar that recalls important events in the lives of Jesus, Mary and the saints. Our Catechists are teaching the students about the different seasons of the Church and the students are connecting the symbols and colors of each Liturgical Season. In a few weeks Advent will begin and I don’t want you to forget to ask the children what color the Priest’s vestments will be!
