LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF My name is John Finn, and I am a candidate for The Stephenville Town Council. I am the son of Mike & Rosemary Finn of 6 Wells Place, Stephenville. I have lived here for 25 years. I completed a two-year program in Community Studies at CNA and furthered my education at Cape Breton University. I have been employed with the Community Education Network during the past five years. My role in assisting hundreds of individuals throughout the region return to school, obtain employment and secure safe and affordable housing has provided me with a unique experience in community leadership. I have worked with a variety of community organizations and provincial government departments. I have gained first-hand an insight into the needs of our community. I would be happy to use my experience in working for YOU! . Waste Management: We should be actively working to reduce the amount of waste brought to the regional landfill by promoting recycling and composting. Further we should explore the potential for a curbside recycling program. Seniors: An active council should be promoting community based programs and services to seniors and continue to work diligently in recruiting health care professionals to our Town. Recreation: The Town’s new ownership and role in the West Coast Training Center will require long-term vision to ensure it is successful and affordable for all citizens (Tots to Seniors). Accessibility and Infrastructure: An Active and progressive Council should have a “sidewalk policy” with sidewalks created in high pedestrian traffic areas on a priority basis until “ALL” streets have adequate sidewalks. Provincial and Federal Government As a Town Council we should be holding meetings on a regular basis with our elected officials at both the provincial and federal level. I hope to be that new face on Council who will deal with the issues while keeping the public informed on what’s happening in the Town of Stephenville.
