They have organized a fundraiser at Chipotle on Homestead Rd on Sunday November 6 from 2:30 until 9:00 p.m. Chipotle is sharing 50% during that time with the Yosemite Fund. Please print the flyer at the end of this newsletter and take it with you to Chipotle on November 6 th from 2:30 – 9:00 p.m. November 7 Superintendent Coffee - Please join Wendy Gudalewicz at 8:15 a.m. in our CLC for an update on our district. November 9 Please join the Santa Clara County Sherriff’s department as they present on Social Media for parents and students. The presentation will cover topics on how to be a good online citizen, how to establish a good digital reputation, some caution zones and how to set students up for a positive future in social media. November 10 Disaster Drill - This is a student and staff drill that takes 100% participation. We ask that all students are present and no appointments are scheduled for this time since the entire campus will be participating. During the drill, the front office will be closed and the campus locked. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding while we perform this drill. The drill will be from 1:45pm to the end of school at 2:48pm. The campus will be locked down at that time. Testing Window District/State student testing begins March 6 th through the first week of May. We ask that students are in school during the variety of testing periods. Specific grade and subject testing dates will be released next month, please be mindful to plan trips, appointments, etc. around this window. We appreciate your support. With the holidays upon us, it is important to be mindful of the school calendar. If your family will be traveling around the holidays, you must report any absence to the office. You may qualify for an independent study package if your travels are a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 10 school days. Please contact Shirley Highstreet a minimum of 10 school days prior to the trip for eligibility and approval. Qualification is not guaranteed.

    Fall Festival Our Fall Festival on Oct. 20 was a gigantic success! Despite rescheduling around the rain, it was our biggest and best Fall Festival ever. We send a huge thank you to our very hard-working organizing committee and all the volunteers who made it happen. We can’t wait to see next year’s event! Direct Donation Contest Results We thank all families who have participated in Direct Donation and our contest. Our contest winners are:

    • 1st place for both highest percentage of students participating and dollars raised per student - Ms. Sun’s class

    • 2nd place for both highest percentage of students participating and dollars raised per student - Mrs. Wong’s class

    • 3rd place for highest percentage of students participating - Ms. Kim’s class • 3rd place for highest dollars raised per student - Mrs. McGrath’s class

    2016 GREAT SCHOOLS WEEK AND 5K THANK YOU

    CEEF would like to thank the CUSD community for a successful 2016 “Run for Great Schools” 5K/Fun Run and Great Schools Week event. Together we ran forward and made important strides in giving back to our community, not only raising funds for our 25 elementary and middle schools but also bringing together our community in support of our 19,000+ students of the Cupertino Union School District (CUSD).     MINDFULNESS SKILLS FOR PARENTS

    Tuesday, November 29, 2016 Location: Fremont Union High School District Professional Learning Center, 589 West Fremont Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94087 Time: 7:00-9:00 p.m Presenter: Linda Lotspeich, MD, Med, Child Psychiatrist and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Autism and Developmental Disabilities Clinic at Stanford Dr. Lotspeich will explore topics including: What is mindfulness? How can we better manage our own difficult emotions as parents? How can we move from coping to living more meaningful lives? How do we stay present and responsive to our children while planning for the future. This education program offers instruction in mindfulness practice including meditation and its application for reducing stress and improving self-esteem and quality of life and how mindfulness can address specific challenges of parenting a child/adolescent/adult with disabilities.
