Burroughs' nature essays influenced the emerging conservation movement of the early 20th Century — as did his friendships with national leaders. Dr. Brinkley is a professor of history at Rice University, a CBS News commentator, and a contributing editor at Vanity Fair mag- azine. He is the author of the acclaimed Wilderness Warrior: Theodore Roosevelt and the Crusade for America and is currently writing Franklin D. Roosevelt: the Renewal of America.
