Service for the Worship of God
August 2, 2020 | 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM
REFLECTION From Isaiah 41 and 43 But now, this is what the Lord says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
I said, ‘You are my servant,’ I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP From Psalm 122 and 27
(Leader) I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage.
INVOCATION
Because we
believe God
initiates with
sinners, we begin
worship
with His Word:
His invitation to
us to gather in
His name.

CORPORATE CONFESSION
(All) Anxiety is my portion;
I resolve to keep control of my life.
I desire a sure and fast outcome;
but this world is harsh and uncertain.
When I think about my strategies,
I realize I must try harder;
I apply myself diligently—
“Work more. Be better.”
Every frustration and setback teaches me
not to forget my inadequacy.
At midnight I toss, sleepless,
because I have never earned rest.
I am not alone in my self-improvement project,
joined by all who seek happiness through force of will.
But this earth is full of constant reminders
that I can never be enough.
Based on Psalm 119:57-64 by Todd Gwennap
SILENT CONFESSION
THE LORD ’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
We confess our sins to God because God’s unfailing, steadfast love draws out our confession. God’s Word says, “He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him.” Thanks be to God for his steadfast love, his compassion, and his full forgiveness through Jesus!
Jesus is good to
lead us from the
sorrow and
shame of our sins
into the security
and joy of His
grace.

HYMN OF PRAISE ANCIENT OF DAYS By CityAlight
7
We give thanks
to God and bring
our needs to him.
DECLARATION OF FAITH APOSTLE’S CREED I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hell1;
the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the quick2 and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic3 church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
