WHO AM I?

I am a 25 years old user centered designer from Gothenburg, Sweden.

Johan Magnusson Parkvägen 1 459 30, Ljungskile

I have recently ended my education in Industrial Design Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg. It is an engineering education with the focus on human factors, user studies and form/design.

I love creative challenges and like to work as a product designer or interaction designer, with innovation, development, form, design and visualization.

I have had my own business going on since 2008, where I have worked with web design and graphic design. I love to do creative projects on my own, and the firm was a way for me to get paid for what I did on my spare time. Since I married two years ago things has changed to some extent and I don’t work that much on my spare time any longer. But I still love creative challenges and try to refine both my engineering and designing skills.

skEtch sEssion - kid’s stovEPersonal project Autumn 2012

Sketching is fun, and more practice is always useful. But what to sketch? I got the idea of sketching a kid’s stove from a set of smaller kitchen tools for children. I thought that they of course should be used together with a small, but real, stove.

The session was also a way for me to improve my speed when working with pen and paper, transfer it into a CAD model, rendering it and use Photoshop for adding the details. My plan was to do everything on one afternoon, but I get stucked when I came to the CAD modelling, and it took one more afternoon. Next time I will use the CAD tool Catia instead of Autodesk Alias.

My CAD-model in Autodesk Alias Automotive.

ExpandablE tablEPersonal project Autumn 2011-spring 2012

I got the inspiration for this coffee table from an existing table in a magazine, which in the same way used the legs on the small table as an extended table top. The other table had some small foldable table legs in inte expanded position, but I thought that it would be possible to do it in a more elegant way.

The result is this table without any unnecessary parts, and the extra table space could be used as a shelf for magazines etc.

The project’s purpose was to inventory the workplace, and give suggestions for improvement. The study will be used by SBMI as a basis for discussion with producers and other stakeholders, in order to implement future improvements.

The study was mainly based on interviews and observations with operators on site. The interviews resulted in 395 citations that were related to problems with the crushers. These were then combined with notes from observations and other researches and grouped in 24 different problem areas.

The concept resulted in a portable stop, which the operator carries. Besides the main function of the manual activation stopping the crusher, the stop also has an alarm function that calls the responsible at the workplace when the stop is used or when the carrier is laying down without moving.

The stop had to be easy to activate in an emergency but also difficult to activate accidentally. In order to achieve a good balance of these two conflicting requirements, the project group decided on a solution with activating through a pulling movement.

As a result of this thesis SBMI initiated a test with portable stops on several cruchers.
