The Events Of The Last Day (7th) Of The Feast Of

Tabernacles

The Masses were divided into 3 groups

This began right before the

breaking of dawn with 3 long blast of the trumpet.

(rams horn). This signified that a

priest was selected for a

once in a lifetime opportunity.

The selected priest would go to the pool of Siloam in a procession about ½ miles away south of the temple.

Just after dawn there would be another blast

of the trumpet signifying that the priest was kneeling and drawing water (golden ½ gallon

pitcher).

Then the priest would have

started walking back to the

temple with this pitcher. At this time, another series of blast would have

signified that the walk had begun.

Along the route would have been 10-30

thousands of people screaming and

cheering.

As he came to the foot of the steps leading up

into the Temple, the crowd would magnify

their cheers as he stood still. Their

cheers was said to rumble like thunder

throughout Jerusalem

After the crowds cheers would have

calmed, there would have been another series of

blast of the trumpets.

This would have signaled the crowd

to come to absolute silence

At this point another priest would have

come out holding a vessel of wine and a vessel of oil in which the only sound you would have heard

was the sound of his feet shuffling across the staircase leading

up to the altar.

Page 20: (Joh 7:37) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (Joh 7:38)

This was time to be at the same point as when the sacrifices would have been

laid out on the altar.

At the top of these stairs was the high priest decked out in his ceremonial garb and holding in each

had a silver cup.

At this moment the priest that had the golden vessel of

water and the priest that had the vessel

of wine, would present their vessels

The high priest would take the water and pour half in each of the silver vessels.

In one of the vessels the high priest would take and pour in the wine and in the other

olive oil.

The high priest would then take the vessels

and place them on the east and west side. In which a

single long blast on the trumpet would

occur

After this 7 selected priest would ascend

up the staircase as they would

softly lead the people in

reciting Psalms 113-118

At this point the 7 priest along with the high priest would

ceremoniously circle the altar 7

times as they continued

chanting the Psalms.

Finally, the High Priest would take

the 2 silver vessels and hold them up high and

he would be reciting

(Isa 12:3) “Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of

salvation.”

Page 27: (Joh 7:37) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (Joh 7:38)

Then he would take the silver vessels and

pour them into a funnel, that lead to

the base of the altar.

At this point the crowd is totally and completely silent as the priest would take a portion of the law that was written an animal’s skin and

place it on the fire.

Page 28: (Joh 7:37) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (Joh 7:38)

At this very moment he was to shout to the Lord to signify to the crowd to begin the cheers and praises to God.But this year just

before the priest would have

shouted, at that moment absolute

silence and anticipation

of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

II. Application to the sinner

Page 31: (Joh 7:37) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (Joh 7:38)

(Joh 7:40-46) Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a

truth this is the Prophet. Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the

seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was? So there was a division among the people because of him.

And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him. Then came

the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why

have ye not brought him? The officers answered, Never man spake like this

man.

III. Application to the saint

Page 33: (Joh 7:37) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (Joh 7:38)

(Joh 7:38) He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of

living water.

(Joh 7:39) (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Page 34: (Joh 7:37) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (Joh 7:38)

(Gal 5:22-25) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,

peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,

faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they

that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also

walk in the Spirit.

Page 35: (Joh 7:37) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (Joh 7:38)

(Eph 5:9) (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness

and righteousness and truth;)

(Php 1:11) Being filled with the fruits of

righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
