JOB TITLE Production Engineering Manager DEPT Operations (Engineering) ABOUT THE JOB The Production Engineering Manager is responsible for managing and supporting two teams (collectively called ‘Engineering’); one to support the low volume high variety manufacturing, including maintenance of equipment, tooling and 3D printing, and one to design and manufacture tooling, including driving new product development (NPD) handover from the Research and Development teams into tooling and the timely introduction of new products with new tools. The role includes the responsibility for a high level of service in the maintenance of the factory and office buildings and facilities. The Production Engineering Manager shall lead the Engineering team and resources to ensure the safe, efficient and effective manufacture of the Company’s products through effective installation, preventative maintenance and improvement of facilities and equipment. Also responsible for capital and process development projects, providing technical support to the wider business, managing contractors and ensuring that Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to. The role has full budgetary responsibility for the department and is required to implement and manage continuous improvement in training, working practices, processes and equipment. Manage the Engineering team day-today and with individually set objectives, performance reviews, training matrices and ensure Company records are maintained in a timely manner accordingly

Ensure all factory and workshop equipment and processes are in place and available for productive manufacture

To design, prove, implement and maintain production tooling through both the NPD and re-design of existing tooling to deliver product on time, to quality and cost requirements

Promote the use of best practice production engineering, planning, vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures through the Quality Management System and adhere to same.

Drive functional excellence within the tooling design and production engineering teams Drive validation plans to ensure robust and comprehensive technical solutions Provide technical manufacturing input to new product developments to aid their smooth

introduction into production Develop and maintain project plans and budget profiles to ensure delivery of milestones to

agreed cost targets and timescales Propose business cases for capital equipment investment and implement approved projects Drive continuous improvement activities in quality, cycle times, process improvements and

machine availability through lean techniques and value engineering to enhance the capability of existing processes and remove waste

Undertake necessary training and development for self and the Engineering team Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems Develop, implement and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of

responsibility With the help of the Health & Safety department ensure risk assessments of processes,

equipment and tasks are all in place and adhered to by the Engineering team Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are in place, adhere to and documented Maintain all buildings and facilities, liaising with the Facilities Coordinator Generate a monthly Engineering Report, documenting all KPIs, project progress, key

challenges and workload lookahead Responsible for departmental budget, achieving budget by controlling costs

KEY TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Skills and Attributes: Highly motivated self-starter with strong leadership and team building skills Understanding of varied manufacturing processes, lean manufacturing, 3D printing,

engineering, scientific and other technical information Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment and cooperate widely with the broader

organisation Project management, planning and prioritising activities Good communication and interpersonal skills Ability to present data effectively Problem-solving skills Understanding of Health and Safety practices and Quality Management Systems Analytical skills

Qualifications and Experience Levels : Experience of managing small production engineering teams and tool design/workshops Extensive experience of low volume, high variety manufacturing, ideally for mould-based

products Strong working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD Experience of New Product Introduction, reworking design changes and upgrades through to

production In depth knowledge and experience of Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA),

Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Lean Manufacturing techniques such as Six Sigma

HND, BTEC Professional Level 5 Award or equivalent NVQ Level 5 qualifications Membership of an industry related professional body an advantage
