![Page 2: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
Why am I here?
• From law school applicant to social media strategist
• Huh?
![Page 3: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
How did I get there?
• I “tweeted my way to a job” – I built my brand online (and off)
I’m happiest when I can blend my passions for strategy, creativity and efficiency to produce high-quality, budget-friendly results.

Employer = Customer
• Hiring is buying – an employee is a major purchase, and the employer wants to be sure that it’s making the right choice
![Page 7: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
What do you do before you buy?
• Research – probably on Google• Employers do too – 75% Google candidates
![Page 8: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
What are they looking for?
• What does a consumer want to know about a product before buying?
![Page 9: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Stages of Buying
• Research – gathering candidates• Disqualifying – eliminating based on negatives• Differentiating – promoting based on positives
• Industry leaders; up to date and current• Case studies – satisfied customers and
possible applications for you
![Page 10: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
They’ve joined the 21st century
• Would you buy something from a company that doesn’t exist in Google?
• Don’t be a digital question mark; you want results when someone Googles your name
![Page 11: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
It should look like this
![Page 12: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
NOT this
• Want Google results to be clean – no negative reviews, images, etc.
• Think before you post
![Page 13: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Professional network
• Why do professionals belong to associations?• LinkedIn shows that you’re connected
professionally
![Page 14: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Satisfied customers
• Like companies use client testimonials, LinkedIn recommendations show that other “customers” have been satisfied with your work
![Page 15: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
They’re keeping up
• Is the company keeping up with the industry?• Use Twitter to show that you’re thinking about
your industry, are keeping up with news and know key influencers
![Page 16: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Their process
• What’s the company’s thought process? Do you agree with their opinions and how they make decisions?
• A blog lets you demonstrate your thought process & share your insights
![Page 17: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Customers are lazy
• Make it easy for them to find all that information – create a website that ties it all together (plug: You can actually do that with Optimal Resume)
![Page 18: Job Search 2.0](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052619/555a309cd8b42a900d8b4fa1/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Recommendations
• LinkedIn – you MUST be here• Twitter – follow thought leaders, demonstrate
your interest in and knowledge of PR• Blog – doesn’t have to be time consuming (can
also be your website); can use class/extracurricular work for posts
• Facebook? Some things are better left private
