frequent and vigorous applause. Morethan usual interest, perhaps, was arousedfrom the fact that many of those whotook part were very young, and yet didremarkably well ; all who took part, infact, did so well that it would be difficultto make special mention of any.

The opening exercise was a piano solo, well played by Miss May Damon. Thiswas followed by a recitation, 44 Catchingthe Cat," so aptly spoken by Miss AdaWhitney as to elicit great applause.Little Ruth Bowen then captivated theaudience with a simple, sweet pianosolo. A recitation, 44 No Wine at MyWedding," by Miss Evelyn Dexter, anda vocal solo" by Mr. II. A. Huff, werewell rendered. Perhaps the two eventsof the evening were those in which Mr.H. W. Peck and Miss Le Count respec-tively figured. The former held theaudience in deep silence as he appro-priately delivered 44 The Battle Flag atShenandoah," and then in response toan encore he afforded great amusementwith a comical take-of- f on the sermon ofa hard-shelle- d Baptist. Miss LeeCount played beautifully on the mandolin, accompanied on the piano byMiss McGrew. The audience would havemore, but instead of responding in amusical way, Miss Le Count gave aweird recitation specially adapted to in-
