• Motorola was the first company to produce a handheld mobile phone. • On 3 April 1973, Martin Cooper, a Motorola Researcher and executive, made the first mobile telephone call from handheld subscriber equipment.• The prototype handheld phone used by Dr. Cooper weighed 1.1 kg and measured 23 cm long, 13 cm deepand 4.45 cm wide. The prototype offered a talk time of just 30 minutes and took 10 hours to re-charge.

2.2 Radio• Guglielmo Marconi: an Italian inventor, proved
the feasibility of radio communication.
• He sent and received his first radio signal in Italy
in 1895.
• In November 1894, the Indian physicist
Jagadish Chandra Bose, demonstrated publicly the
use of radio waves in Calcutta, but he was not
interested in patenting his work.

2.3 BlueTooth• Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for
exchanging data over short distances.• Bluetooth operates at frequencies between 2402
and 2480 MHz or 2400 and 2483.5 MHz.• Named after tenth-century king Harald
BlueTooth who united Danish tribes into a single kingdom.
• Bluetooth is managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), which has more than 25,000 member companies in areas of telecommunication computing, networking, and consumer electronics.

• Bluetooth 5 was announced in June 2016.
• It will quadruple the range (800 feet), double the speed (50 Mbit/s).
• It is mainly focused on Internet of Things (IoT), emerging technology.
• The release of products is scheduled for late 2016 to early 2017.

2.4 Wi-Fi
• Wi-Fi or WiFi is a technology that allows electronic devices to connect to a wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) network.
• Wi-Fi compatible devices can connect to the Internet via a WLAN network and a wireless access point (hotspot).
• It has a range of about 20 meters (66 feet) indoors and a greater range outdoors.

2.5 Walkie-Talkie
• A walkie-talkie is a half-duplex communication device.
• Only one radio on the channel can transmit at a time, although any number can listen.

2.6 Dish TV
• The type of satellite television which uses direct-broadcast satellites is known as direct-broadcast satellite television or direct-to-home television.
• The term "direct broadcast" is used to distinguish satellites which transmit radio or television signals directly to receivers in consumers' homes from other communication satellites which transmit signals to satellite ground stations.

2.7 Global Positioning System (GPS)
• The GPS, also known as Navstar, provides location and time information in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites.
• The GPS system operates independently of any telephonic or internet reception, though these technologies can enhance the usefulness of the GPS positioning information.
• The GPS system provides critical positioning capabilities to military, civil, and commercial users around the world.
• The United States government created the system, maintains it, and makes it freely accessible to anyone with a GPS receiver.

• is the term used for the exploration of deep space, within or away from the Solar System.
• On August 25, 2012, data from Voyager 1 indicated that it had become the first human-made object to enter interstellar space, traveling "further than anyone, or anything, in history”
• As of 2013, Voyager 1 was moving with a velocity of 17 kilometers per second (11 mi/s) relative to the Sun.
• Voyager 2 is expected to enter interstellar space by 2016, and its plasma spectrometer should provide the first direct measurements of the density and temperature of the interstellar plasma.

• Voyager 2 launched on August 20, 1977, from Cape Canaveral, Florida aboard a Titan-Centaur rocket.
• On September 5, Voyager 1 launched, also from Cape Canaveral aboard a Titan-Centaur rocket.
• Both spacecraft are still sending scientific information about their surroundings through the Deep Space Network, or DSN.
