Pittsburgh is a dominant aerospace supplier Pittsburgh Boeing recently announced that it intends to expand its Fayette County facility and double its headcount, a clear reflection of Pittsburgh’s strength in the aerospace industry. The region is home to a number a manufacturers producing critical components for the aerospace industry. Components range from paints and coatings to fasteners and landing gear. Arguably the most recognizable Pittsburgh-based aerospace manufacture is Alcoa, who’s aerospace business unit reaps more than $4 billion in revenue annually. Alcoa’s fasteners and castings can be found on nearly every commercial aircraft currently in service. As an example, on just one Airbus A380 there are about one million Alcoa fasteners.
