    1.1 As Is Process General Explanation

    1.2 Explanation of Proposed Process

    Permits in Maintenance represent a regulation or condition that must be observed andfulfilled when maintenance work is performed (either before starting of the job or at thecompletion of the job) on a technical object.

    Permits can be assigned to the following objects:

      Equipment  Functional locations  Maintenance and service orders

    If permits are assigned to Equipment or Functional location master records then they canbe automatically assigned to Maintenance order created for the Equipments orFunctional Locations which have permits assigned in their master records. Otherwisepermit can be assigned manually to Maintenance order by the order processor at the

    time of creation, according to the technical requirements of the job.

    There are two point of times when permit process can be activated in maintenance orderprocessing

    1. At the time of Order release, if permit condition should be fulfilled before startingthe maintenance job

    2. At the time of Order technical completion (TECO), If permit condition should befulfilled before completing the maintenance job

    When permits are assigned to order, they have to be issued by concerned authority (e.g.,

    Safety department or Maint. incharge of the concerned area) after confirming that all the

    conditions of permit meet at the job site, otherwise order release or TECO will berejected by the system.

    When required permit(s) are not issued for the order then system can behave in twomanners depending upon the system configuration:

    1) it will give warning message, but you can go ahead with order release or TECO2) it will give error message, the release and TECO will be rejected by the system

    until the issue of required permit(s) in the system.

    Notification

     A permit can also be blocked for usage, temporarily, if required.

     A permit master record contains following fields:

    Permit number/code, permit descriptionPermit categoryPermit activation condition: Order Release or Completion and Warning/error messagePermit block (indicator)Permit not modifiable (indicator)

    Permits can be issued, cancelled, reissued.

    If the outside party is involved then the person under whose guidance the work isbeing done will get the permit issued.

    Release of permit can have control on release of order.

      Shift engineer or order creator has to identify and assign a permit to themaintenance order during order creation.
