JINGILI SCHOOL COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER Dear Parents/Carers A big thank-you to everyone who has contributed to the organisation of the Quiz Night and Art Auction tomorrow evening. I hope youve booked a table for what promises to be a great night. There are lots of great prizes and the art work Ive seen so far looks fabulous. Here is a small sample. Please remember that there will be a BBQ dinner and salad available. We are encouraging people to bring their own plates, knives and forks. Plastic will incur a surcharge. Id like to welcome a new teacher, Ms Kristy Rickert to our school. Ms Rickert is a skilled dance teacher who has choreographed a dance performance for the 2018 Jingili Jiggle. Our students will all have the opportunity to learn dance throughout next term culminating in a spectacular performance at the Jingili Jiggle. Please note the date in your diary now - 6 pm, Wednesday 8th December. Our recent Swimming Program was a great success and the swimming teachers have complimented our school on the excellent way in which our students conducted themselves. Well done everyone. I had the pleasure of attending the recent BEAT performance Ignitelast Friday evening. Our choir is to be congratulated for their excellent participation. It was also great to see some of our past students giving talented performances. Thank-you to Ms Chellew and Ms Sachs for all the work they did in supporting the choir throughout this year. I believe we will all have the opportunity to hear them sing a couple of songs at our next assembly. Its that time of the year again when we start to prepare for the following year. If your family is leaving Jingili or if you know of a family who wishes to enroll in our school for 2019 please let us know. It really helps with the planning of our class structures and budget preparation. Next week at assembly T/1White and T/1 Nathanael will lead the whole school to sing the song Speak Up’. Café Jingili will be open and the Kitchen Garden team will be selling produce and preserves. That will take us to the end of term 3 and the beginning of a two week break. School will resume on Monday 15th October. Kitchen Garden at Jingili Hello Jingili Community A big thank you to the community for more donations: Desert rose seeds from Ms Stav and marigold seeds from Tahlia Szyc. Belinda Small has been working hard to apply for grants for the program. This is a big help as it’s a time consuming task and will benefit the students and program if we are successful. Fingers crossed!! Several families are bringing in their food scraps to add to our chook feed, worm food and compost bays. It’s great to think we are reducing the amount of compostable matter going into landfill. Trish Treglaon came in after school to help remove labels from jars so we can recycle them when making preserves and products for our stall. Greta and Gus Enbom came in after school to help out with food scraps and composting. Grace Cranley and Michele have been coming in and volunteering in their child’s class. It is always enjoyable and helpful to have some adult assistance. This week students are making and tasting lemongrass tea and impossible pie with passionfruit. They will be following a recipe and measuring ingredients for muesli and labelling pavers to identify plants in the garden. Early childhood students will be practising their knife skills on playdough and continuing their learning about insects. Assembly is Friday, week 10 and we have all our new produce from the working bee. Please come and have a look at what we have made. You may consider buying something new to try at home.

KITCHEN GARDEN WORM FARM RAFFLE!!

Bunnings has generously donated a Worm Farm Kit to the Jingili Kitchen Garden Program. As the school already has established 6 worm farms around the school, we thought this would be a great opportunity for the Jingili community to begin their own Worm Farm at home and for students to share their learning.

How much? $1.00 per raffle ticket.

How many can I purchase? As many as you like!! When will it be drawn? At the last assembly in Term 3.

The worm farm comes with instructions, and everything you need to get started. You’ll need a shady and cool spot for them to live. Care is relatively simple: they will need to be fed, damp and cool.

Worm farming is a great way to reduce your household food waste.

Using as little space as a sheltered balcony or garden space, you can turn your food

scraps into a nutritious garden resource and keep your food out of landfill.

Worm farming provides an excellent alternative or supplement to conventional

composting.

A worm farm can:

Create slow-releasing fertiliser for your plants and improve your soil structure

Reduce your organic waste and prevent the release of methane which occurs

when food breaks down in landfill

Increase the ability of your soil to catch and store water, meaning you reduce

the need to water your garden

Bolster your household pet-count by 1000 or more! Kids will love to learn and play

with your worms.
