We think so. At 103 years young, Jim Stapleton still plays regular social and pennant bowls for Rich River Golf Club Resort, located in Moama NSW. Jim was born on June 17, 1913 at Beringa, near Newton. He was the fifth of six children for Tom and Mabel Stapleton. His childhood was not an easy one; his father passed away when he was only six and he vividly remembers the years of the Great Depression. Despite this hardship, Jim has always loved his sport. With a golf course at the back of his property growing up, Jim played the game since he was young. He played golf for 90 years, before giving up the sport at 98. Jim has also tried his hand - and been good at - football, cycling, rifle shooting and bowls. He started playing senior football at aged 15 and didn’t hang up the boots until he was 39 years old. Jim is a proud and popular member of Rich River Golf Club Resort. He was instrumental in relocating the Echuca Golf Club over the Murray River to NSW and spent the first seven years of its existence as president. He was made a Life Member of Rich River Golf Club Resort on the 17th March 1980. These days Jim plays bowls passionately. He can be seen at least two days a week on the greens playing socially and even competed in last years’ Rich River pennant team. Jim and his wife Nell had 4 children and have added six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren to the family. Sadly Nell recently passed away two months short of her 100th birthday. Jim is an exceptional example of how to live life to the fullest and his secret to a long life, “You just hang around and let it happen”. Jim Stapleton About Rich River Golf Resort...
