PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION JHM program needs, creating an implementation plan that will effectively and efficiently incorporate your program into existing operational business systems. Our implementation approach reflects all national OSH legislation and all other program requirements related to occupational safety & health program implementation. We offer one-time consulting or full-service program implementation (safety program outsource) that includes the management, operation and implementation of all safety and health programs that fall within the program scope for your organization. This also includes identifying any new operational risks, health hazards or liabilities. SAFETY & HEALTH PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT JHM strives to give you more than just paperwork to solve your problems. We provide programs and training materials that can strengthen your internal capabilities. We accomplish this by:
Working closely with your company during program development to incorporate the successful aspects of your safety and health programs, rather than always starting from scratch.
Giving you the option to receive training materials that would be used internally, decreasing your dependence on outside trainers.
Providing electronic copies of programs and training materials so you can make updates and changes internally.
SAFETY TRAINING The responsibility for a safe and healthful workplace does not merely lie in the hands of company management. All employees are equally responsible for ensuring the workplace is safe and that any assigned subordinates receive adequate training to safely execute their assigned duties. Each employee must be advised as to the basic lessons of safety and any hazards related to their specific tasks or activities. Depending on the job responsibilities of each employee, this training could range from just a few hours to a few weeks per year. The primary focus of the training program is to protect employees from hazards associated with their work environment. This can be done by a number of methods: • Monthly Classroom Training Sessions (as part of an annual training plan) • Single Event Training (one time need for Workers Induction, for example) • Supervisory Training (for team leaders) Regardless of the method, training will potentially lead to a reduction in occupational mishaps and ultimately a reduction in operational costs.

ALCOHOL AND DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE PROGRAMME SYNOPSIS Like the dry rot that eats away the wooden beams of a house, drugs can corrode the whole structure of society. For human society to function properly, it must have stable families, healthy workers, trustworthy governments, honest law enforcement agents, and law-abiding citizens. Drugs not only corrupt every one of the fundamental elements but can also destroy them. Until recently substance abuse has been viewed as either a health problem or a law enforcement problem. It has not been seen as issue that needed to be addressed in the workplace. However, substance abuse is a serious workplace problem because it affects employee health, safety, productivity, and health care costs. The National Institute on Drug Abuse reports that approximately 68 percent of all illegal drug users are employed either full - or part time. Indicators show that one in every 10 people in this country has an alcoholism problem. People don’t check their substance abuse problems at the entrance when they enter the workplace. Workers who use alcohol and other drugs affect everyone. In fact, studies show that compared to alcohol and drug free workers, substance abusers
Are far less productive
Miss more workdays
More problematic
Are more likely to injure themselves or someone else It is even more difficult to put a price on low morale and impaired judgment in decision making at work caused by substance abuse. Nor it is easy for an organisation to figure the costs of pilfering, high turnover, recruitment, and training. No one knows exactly how much being lost in this way because of undetected or untreated substance abuse. The measurable financial cost workplace substance abuse from absenteeism, overtime pay, tardiness, sick leave, insurance claims, and workers compensation can be substantial. However, the hidden costs resulting from diverted supervisory and managerial time, friction among workers, damage to equipment, and damage to the company’s public image mean that workplace substance abuse can further cut profits and competitiveness. Nobody wants to believe that a friend or an employee has a substance abuse problem. Subtle changes in behaviour may be written off or not recorded because no one knows how or wants to confront the problem. But when behaviours or attitudes that diminish work performance are ignored or excused, workers who are harmfully involved with alcohol or other drugs are allowed to continue to be a risk to themselves and fellow co-workers.
JHM Energy Consulting
22 | P a g e
To dismiss all of these as “the cost of doing business” is to accept a norm that does not have to be accepted. Refusal to admit the possibility that alcohol or other drug use might exist in a workplace could also be a missed opportunity to help an employee. If there is a problem, ignoring it will not make it go away. Drug and alcohol problems do not usually get better if left alone: They get worse. Given the importance of the workplace in the fight against substance abuse, we believe that the work place should assume a leadership role. Every workplace in the Nation should be encouraged to voluntarily establish a comprehensive substance abuse programme. Furthermore the workplace has tremendous potentials to educate employees and to assist substance abuser in seeking help. SUBSTANCE ABUSE: Managing Its Effects on Job Performance. INTRODUCTION Substance abuse is a problem of epidemic proportion in our society (alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, monkey-tail, prescription drugs etc.), a problem that has invaded the workplace. Indicators show that drug-and alcohol related on-the-job accidents are increasing steadily. Drug and alcohol abuse costs the average employer an estimated 25 percent of its workers salaries-in loss productivity, poor attendance, and increase use of medical benefits. When substance abuse by employees affects work performance, supervisors and employees must become involved. This programme was developed to teach supervisors and employees how to deal with this problem. It is designed to teach supervisors how to identify the signs of substance abuse and to intervene appropriately. Employees will learn how to recognise the problem, seek help, and encourage co-workers to seek help. OBJECTIVE: What will they learn? At the end of the programme, participants will be able to know:
• How prevalent substance abuse is in the workplace, • How to identify the effect of substances most frequently abused, • How supervision can confront substance abusers, and how important
rehabilitation and reintegration are to the former abuser.

FIRE SAFETY MANAGEMENT
DURATION: 1 DAY FOR WHOM:
Designed for all staff, Contractor and Contract staff. This course is aimed at those who have little or no experience in the field of risk assessment. This course introduces the concept of risk assessment. BACKGROUND
The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations places certain fire precaution responsibilities on employers. This theme is continued in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. One of the essential requirements of these regulations is that employers make an assessment of the fire risks that exist in their premises and plan to manage the risk. This process is widely known as the fire risk assessment and this course provides excellent guidance on correct methods and the processes of conducting a fire risk assessment. Furthermore, participants are offered guidance on how to analyse and record such an assessment and to act upon the findings to reduce the risks and ultimately improve fire safety in their workplace. AIM
• To introduce the theory and practical application of the principles of fire risk assessment • To identify principal workplace hazards • To assist participants in the appraisal of the adequacy of workplace fire precautions. CONTENTS
• Principles of risk assessment • What it is, why it is needed and what it involves • The risk assessment process • Planning the assessment • Hazard identification • Evaluation • Risk controls • Monitoring and revision • Practical workshop
This 5 days residential course is continually being updated and amended to include topic areas that are pertinent to the ever evolving scope of fire safety management. DURATION: 5 DAYS BACKGROUND
In the course of a concentrated and focused week of training, the participants will be taught by SPSL staff, senior fire brigade officers, insurance surveyors and consultants, who are all experts in their fields. THE AIM
This course will introduce the key principles of fire prevention and control at a primary management level and make participants aware of and understand the vast range of topics involved in fire safety.
