Rebecca's got that X-Factor By David Newbery Her brother gave up trying to beat her and now Gold Coast junior Rebecca Kay has demolished the Queensland Primary Schools Championship field at Townsville in north Queensland. The 12-year-old Coolangatta Tweed Heads Golf Club junior scored a runaway victory at the State championship winning by a massive 13 strokes. In the past 18 months, the nine marker has shaved 27 shots off her handicap and that's got coach Ross Moodie excited. Bunker Woes Cured By Lee Harrington Golf Queensland Development Officer & PGA Member If you are one of the many golfers with an aversion to sand on the golf course, here are some simple technique tips to turn sand into your strength. Preparation: As you enter the bunker you need to gauge the depth of sand in the bunker. Wriggle your feet about to see how deep the sand is. If there is only a thin layer of sand before firm soil, select a pitching, gap wedge or lob wedge as these wedges are sharper and won't bounce off the subsoil. If the sand depth touches your lace height on your shoes, select you sand wedge which has 'bounce' to slide through the deeper sand. Read More >

National Skills and Challenge Program The MYGolf program is a new initiative launched by Golf Australia targeted to boys and girls aged 8 to 16 years. The program aims to help you develop and assess your golf skills and ability. The six skills tested include: Rip It - Long shots Roll It - Putting Chip It - Chipping Fly It - Pitching Blast It - Bunker shots Bend It - Manoeuvring the ball The MYGolf skills program is being launched at a local golf club near you.
