Welcome to the March issue of Cruise Ahoy and boy have we got some treats in store for you! Here at Jetline Cruise we have experienced an amazing level of bookings throughout February and it’s no wonder what with all the snow we’ve had. I can only think that you’ve all been snowed in and with nothing else to do your thoughts have turned to escaping the cold to somewhere warm and enticing with one of our incredible cruise deals.

Our new Nile website has gone down a storm and what with our Nile destination feature in the magazine last month, bookings for Nile cruises have gone through the roof. For anyone considering a Nile cruise it is well worth having a chat with one of our dedicated Nile cruise specialists, they know all there is to know about this intriguing region of the world!

We are always really pleased to hear back from our customers what they thought of their cruise and feedback is welcome as it can only help us to improve our service! Plus we love seeing all the great destinations our readers have visited.

Now, I’ve been saving the best for last. This issue we are privileged to be featuring a double page spread by Jane Archer, lead cruise writer for the Daily Mail and Sunday Telegraph. Jane will be giving her valued insight with an article about Freedom of the Seas and Caribbean cruises. Not to be missed, I’m sure you will agree.

As always the magazine has tons of amazing cruise deals, with some of the lowest prices you will find anywhere. But remember, if the cruise you are looking for is not here just give one of our friendly sales guys a call and they’ll be able to source it for you. Hopefully with our new ‘meet the team’ section you will feel even more at home with Jetline.

Happy Cruising!

Meet the Jetline teamMEET THE TEAM

This months edition we are pleased to feature two of our senior sales consultants. Andrew Jordan who is known as Jordan and Max Khan. Below you can find out a little more about them.

Max after Ian is Jetline’s longest serving employee and has been selling cruises now for over 5 years. In the office he is known as Arnold Schwarzenegger. This comes from the famous quote from the Terminator movie where Arnie says give me your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle. Max displays a similar style: “Give me your first name, your surname and your credit card details” is his opening line. Since Max has worked here he has always been number one sales person and no one had produced more bookings than him. The other consultants are trying and some have come close, but Max has always been top dog.

If you need to speak to Max don’t try him in the morning as you won’t get him. He works a permanent late shift and will start around midday and will not finish until around 4.00am every morning. During the night he is busy processing his bookings from the previous day. If you do book with Max you can rest assured your booking is in safe hands. Since he has worked for us he has only made one

mistake and Max’s attention to detail and diligence with his bookings means he has 1000’s of happy customers.

If you are lucky enough to have Max answer your enquiry you won’t get so much friendly chit chat as you will with some of the other sales staff but you will get a consultant who knows his stuff, is professional and will be able to answer your questions very quickly. Max would be the first to admit if you are phoning up for a chat he is probably the wrong person to call. If you are phoning to actually book a cruise he is then the best.

After many years of selling cruises Max still loves the buzz. He has tried numerous ships and knows the insides and outsides of many cruise lines. This knowledge has come from spending 12 hours a day 7 days a week selling them. He would like to thank all of his loyal customers who book with him time after time (which there are plenty of) and looks forward to being of service to everyone.

Hi I am Jordan and, as some of you would have heard, I am the best looking guy in the office. Unfortunately now that you can all see me the myth has been broken. Ian the MD thinks I have a face for the telephone. I have worked for Jetline for nearly 18 months now and I can quite easily say that I love it. I have previously worked self employed as a trader in the oil markets but due to the volatility of the markets I decided I wanted a change of direction as you could lose a month’s money in a matter of seconds. Selling cruises is so very different to being a trader but the intensity when we are busy is amazing.

I have been cruising now for over 4 years when I was hijacked to go to Ian’s wedding onboard Navigator of the Seas. Since then I have become hooked and make certain I get away at least twice a year cruising. I have predominantly cruised with Royal Caribbean but I have been lucky enough to win a competition with Princess Cruises for a cruise to Alaska in May. I will write a review for you all to enjoy when I get back. I am certainly looking forward to it as

I have booked many an Alaskan cruise for my customers and it will be great to finally see for myself what this amazing place has to offer.

Working at Jetline I have been lucky enough to have built up a loyal client base and would like to thank those customers for continuing to book their cruise holidays with me. I would say my style on the phone is relaxed and I prefer to treat all my customers as friends. I want people to trust my knowledge, laugh at my bad jokes and keep coming back to me for all their cruise holiday requirements. If I was to give anyone a top tip it would be don’t book with Ian, his jokes are shocking. That aside, if you can afford it and gents you want to get brownie points from your good lady, upgrade your cabin to a balcony - that always goes down well.

Once again I would like to thank everyone for their business and please keep on booking with me as I have a wife who spends money like water. I look forward of being of service to you.

Cruise Industry NewsIt seems that cruise holidays are booming with all new ships that are either being launched or just been commissioned. Throughout 2009 Holland America Line’s Culinary Arts Center programs will be inviting chefs from kitchens and restaurants around the world and making them part of the guest enrichment program. You might just be sailing with a well-known executive chef from a famous restaurant or hearing a talk from an inspiring culinary television personality.

For all those out there who love the culinary arts, these cruises are not to be missed. Holland America Line have partnered with Food and Wine magazine and scheduled approximately 60 celebrated chefs and wine experts to join cruises throughout 2009. Guests will have the opportunity to experience demonstrations and seminars conducted by a wide range of culinary experts.

Holland America Line ships are the ideal location to showcase award-winning guest experts. In addition to the enrichment experiences guests can dine in a variety of venues, including everything from a quick snack poolside to a formal five-course extravagant affair. Celebrity Equinox to ‘soft launch in July

Celebrity Cruises are experiencing rave reviews for their new Celebrity Solstice and have now announced that the construction of sister ship Celebrity Equinox is proceeding so well that there will be a ‘soft’ launch prior to the ships maiden voyage on 8 August.

The highly anticipated Celebrity Equinox will now depart from Southampton on 31 July on a roundtrip through the beautiful Norwegian Fjords. Celebrity Cruises are offering guests booked on Celebrity Equinox’s inaugural sailing the opportunity to combine

their 10 night ‘Best of Europe’ cruise with the 8 night ‘soft’ launch, making for an incredible 18 night voyage.

The 8 night Norwegian Fjords cruise features ports of call at Stavanger, Flåm, Geiranger and Oslo whilst the 10 night maiden voyage will visit Paris/Normandy (via Le Havre) and Cherbourg, France; Vigo, Cartagena and Barcelona, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal, and Gibraltar, UK, ending in Rome (via Civitavecchia), Italy.

Celebrity Equinox will offer a whole host of industry-first attributes that Celebrity Solstice has been praised for, including a half-acre real grass lawn at the Lawn Club, a glass-blowing show and studio, spectacular entertainment and the highly personalised service that comes as standard with Celebrity Cruises.

Balcony cabins still available at only £1299 call for details for the maiden voyage

Political satirist Christopher Buckley to sail on board Queen Mary 2Award-winning author and political satirist Christopher Buckley is set to join the distinguished list of literary personalities scheduled to sail on board Cunard Line’s flagship Queen Mary 2. Hailed as “the quintessential political novelist of our time” by Fortune magazine, Buckley will sail on the 5 November Transatlantic crossing from New York to Southampton.

Cunard Line has long since been the line of choice for travelers with a passion for literature and their acclaimed on board enrichment program, Cunard’s Insights, introduces guests to stimulating experts and accomplished visionary’s through a series of lectures, Q&A’s, debates and social gatherings.

This year Cunard Line will play host to a number of notable authors such as E.L. Doctorow, Erica Jong and Amy Bloom. Cunard Line president Carol Marlow said Buckley’s insight and intelligence will entertain and engage the ship’s passengers. “His humorous take on Washington’s political life is always fresh and appealing and we know his unique brand of wit will resonate with our guests,” she added.

The 5 November Transatlantic crossing is just one of more than 20 classic six day voyages on board Queen Mary 2 sailing between New York and Southampton. A Cunard Transatlantic crossing is largely considered to be the definitive ocean travel experience, offering guests plenty of opportunity to partake in leisurely pursuits, intellectual stimulation and gourmet dining.

Leading Italian cruise line Costa Cruises currently has the world’s biggest ship order book and has more ships on order than any other cruise line. Costa Cruises are sailing in the face of the economic credit crunch with five new ships on order, three of which are set to launch within the next year.

It has been reported that in 2008 Costa Cruises was for the second year running the only European cruise line to exceed the record figure of 1,000,000 total guests in just 12 months. Costa Cruises anticipate that by 2010 they will be carrying more than 1.5 million passengers annually.

The cruise line’s current fleet consists of 12 ships, each with its own distinctive characteristics and style, sailing to 250 destinations in the Mediterranean, northern Europe, Baltic, Caribbean, South America, United Arab Emirates, Far East and the Indian Ocean.

Costa Luminosa is set to launch in 2009 with a guest capacity of 2,828, along with Costa Pacifica boasting a guest capacity of 3,780. Costa Luminosa and ‘music themed’ Pacifica will feature a number of on board innovations including a giant 18m2 video screen in the

More marrying at sea with P&O CruisesP&O Cruises married 371 couples at sea last year, 32% more than in 2007 and 64% more than in 2006. The average UK weddings costs a wallet bursting average of £19,200, whereas wedding at sea packages start from as low as £950, including the licensing fees, venue, ceremony conducted by the ship’s captain, VIP treatment including priority boarding, floral arrangements for the ceremony, wedding music, wedding certificate, champagne, invitations, thank-you notes and an onboard wedding coordinator.

P&O Cruises are one of only two cruise lines offering the chance for couples to be married at sea and it seems that nautical nuptials are becoming ever popular with many couples. In response to this upturn P&O Cruises have launched a dedicated website to provide all the information couples need to plan their big day at sea – www.pocruise.co.uk/weddings.

P&O Cruises’ head of brand marketing Philip Price said: “Our new website means that from the very first stages of planning, couples can find everything they need to know in just one place. They can find out about P&O Cruises six ships before downloading the complete weddings at sea brochure and a booking form to return to the team of dedicated wedding planners.”

Hi Kelvin

What can I say about our cruise with

Princess Cruises? Great ship, gorgeous

food throughout (put on about 3 stone in

weight!), excellent shore excursions, evening

entertainment was superb.

Thanks for getting us such a good deal, the

balcony made all the difference and the wife

loved sitting out there of an evening.

Cheers again

Thanks for such a good deal

Thank youDear Sir

Just wanted to write and say thank you for

arranging our cruise holiday this year. My

husband and I had a wonderful time sailing on

Queen Mary 2 and we will be calling you soon

to book our cruise next year. Everything was

perfect on board and the ports of call

were great.

Thanks again and we’ll be in touch soon!

Richard and Veronica Daniels

To all at Jetline CruiseA big, big thank you for the holiday of a lifetime. We have

never cruised before but after enjoying a blissful 2 weeks

on board P&O Cruises Ventura know that we will want to

do it again and again! The whole holiday was fantastic

and what made it even better was the fact that we got

such a great deal on the price.

We are already deciding where to cruise to next year

and after enjoying a lovely time sailing round the

Mediterranean we feel more daring to trying somewhere

further afield next time.

Best regards

Josephine McCarthy

Dear Sir

I don’t normally take the time to write thank

you letters but felt I had to say thank you for

arranging my cruise holiday. From the initial

call right through to booking everything was

very smooth and your sales team are extremely

helpful, even managing to get an upgrade at

much better prices than expected.

Everyone that I spoke to on the cruise I told

them about your helpful service and they were

amazed at the good deal I got – some were very

jealous!

Kind regards

Mrs G Vander-Holt

Dear Sir

Re – Royal Caribbean Cruise

We have just returned from a Royal Caribbean Cruise and have all had a fantastic time. The kids loved all the activities laid on for them and the surf park was a big hit with the boys who spent most of their time trying to outdo each other! We all enjoyed our time on the ship, which was really out of this world.

Spent too much money but after getting such a great deal from you guys at Jetline we weren’t as bothered!

Thanks again for all your help, it was really appreciated.

Destination FocusCruising the Caribbean aboard RCI Freedom of the SeasJane Archer - Cruise journalist and regular contributor to the Telegraph, tells us all about her Caribbean cruise aboard Royal Caribbean International’s Freedom of the Seas.

The whole coach gasped as we got our first glimpse of Royal Caribbean International’s Freedom of the Seas. It might be billed the “world’s biggest cruise

ship” but you have no idea of the size until you come face to face.

“This is a big ship, so be prepared for lots of queuing,” I warned husband Mark and daughter Ilana before we left the UK. My words were flooding back to me now as coach loads of embarking passengers flocked into the Miami terminal.

Half an hour later, after checking-in and jumping through a few passport hoops laid on specially for non-Americans, we were stepping onto the ship. Impressive or what?

Within another half hour we had found our cabin, dumped our hand luggage and set off to explore the ship that would be home for the next seven nights, as we cruised the Caribbean, visiting Cozumel in Mexico, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay in Jamaica and Royal Caribbean’s fun island of Labadee, on the coast of Haiti.

From April 2009, Freedom’s home port moves from Miami to Port Canaveral, but it will be sailing much the same itinerary, just in reverse order. So Labadee is the first stop and it calls at Ocho Rios instead of Montego Bay.

When I say we went exploring, actually we went in search of food and this being a cruise ship we were not disappointed. The Windjammer self-service on deck 11 was open and serving everything from soups and salads to pastas, chicken, beef and moussakas; in a separate section of the buffet, called Jade, there were Oriental favourites with pork, beef and noodles.

The dining rooms are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but we always chose Windjammer for breakfast and lunch (you could usually find me in the Jade section, where they also had Indian dishes), venturing downstairs only for dinner.

When we were on, Royal Caribbean was still operating the fixed dining option where you are allocated a table and people to share with for the duration of the cruise, but things are changing. From May, Royal Caribbean ships will also offer a Mytime alternative, giving you freedom to eat in the dining room when you want.

There are also two speciality restaurants on Freedom – Chops Grille for steaks and Portofino for fine Italian dining. They cost extra but Mark and I agreed our dinner in Chops was well worth the $25 each for the quality food, better service and more intimate surrounds.

Ilana could have joined us in Chops (but children under 13 have to dine there before 7pm) but was off doing her own thing most evenings with friends she had made in the teens’ club – there’s a kids’ club for the three to 11s, divided into three age groups, and a teens’ club, split between 12-14s and 15-17s.

However, she didn’t miss our calorie-fest in Johnny Rockets, a 1950’s-style US diner complete with juke box and dancing waiters. You put on weight just looking at the food, but hey, it was great fun and only $3.95 each.

While on the subject of food, there’s a café, pizza bar and Ben & Jerry’s along the Promenade – a horizontal “street” through the centre of the ship - on deck five so there really is no chance of going hungry on Freedom.

Finding the FlowRiderBack in Windjammer, we grabbed a hasty first lunch and then set off to see what has to be the most talked about feature on this massive 160,000-ton ship. The FlowRider surf wave.

Freedom has a rock-climbing wall, an ice-skating rink, mini-golf, a full-size boxing rink (for keeping fit rather than beating up passengers!) and a water park, where you can play for hours under jets of water and relax in a very lazy lazy river, but these were as nothing compared to the FlowRider.

We were still in Miami and already the surf dudes were queuing up to have a go - waiting my turn on the FlowRider next day turned out to be the only time I had to stand in line during the whole cruise, and that was despite having to tender at three ports, unloading more than 4,000 passengers at each – and crowds of people were watching the fun.

Royal Caribbean can never have imagined so many people would want to watch others on the FlowRider – on the sea days the audience was there again – but it’s a terrific bonus as it takes pressure off other parts of the ship, especially the sun loungers. When we wandered out on deck to soak up some sun at 11am on that first sea day, there were so many empty sunbeds that we were able to spread out over two in the sun and two in the shade. They were not near the pool, which suited us; for that you will need to get there early.

I was back at the FlowRider that afternoon, standing in line and wondering just how hard it can be to lie on a board while being buffeted by a 30mph wave.

“Hold the edges, keep your elbows down and your legs off the board,” the guy in charge said when finally it was my turn. I took a deep breath, launched myself and hurtled - or so it seemed - through the water. Incredibly I managed to stay in the jet stream for about three minutes, half drowning as the water hit my face, before I lost balance and was whooshed up into the back board. I staggered to my feet, looked at the long queue and decided my career as a surf dude was over. Topping up the tan is so much easier.

As the ship is so big, there are plenty of places to hang out in the evenings. My favourites were Olive or Twist – a lively bar at the top of the ship – and the Schooner Bar, for the live piano music. There were song-and-dance acts most evenings in the theatre, an excellent ice show one night and live music in the many lounges dotted around the ship.

gentle walk past piles of stones claimed by our guide to be Mayan remains.

“They look as they’ve just been put there,” Ilana whispered. I agreed, but it was nice to stretch the legs after a day at sea being mesmerised by endless cabin doors every time we wanted to eat. A top tip: Ask for a cabin at the aft end of the ship so it’s only up or down to eat. We were right at the front and the walk to the back – don’t forget this is a big ship - soon became tedious!

In Montego Bay, Ilana and I chose a horseback ride and swim – a walk around an old estate and then saddles off, swimming costumes on and we went on the horses’ backs into the sea. Deep into the sea, so the horses were actually swimming. I had to hold on tight to stop floating away, which was hard when I was laughing so much.

There are loads of other activities from Mo’ Bay, such as river tubing, zipwiring through tree canopies, kayaking, swimming with dolphins, climbing through the water at Dunn’s River Falls, even riding Jamaica’s bobsled. The good news is that all these trips will also be available when the ship calls at Ocho Rios as the two ports are just 90 minutes apart.

Last call was Labadee, Royal Caribbean’s private island, where you can relax on a beach, play in the waterpark, enjoy some high-speed sightseeing in a rib boat or go parasailing. As we had done the riding, it was Mark’s turn to chose an excursion. He went for the jet ski tour around the coast. “Brilliant,” was the one word verdict as he tucked into the BBQ lunch they cook up on shore on Labadee day.

Days ashoreWe booked shore excursions at both Cozumel and Montego Bay, but did our own thing in Grand Cayman as we had been there before.

That time we visited Stingray City - a sandbank about 20 minutes offshore where rays once gathered to catch scraps of bait tossed into the sea by passing fishermen. Now they come for the tourists, who can paddle in the water and try to touch or feed the wild rays - with their stings still intact, don’t forget - as they wend around their body and between their legs.

Of course, there are loads of other things to do in Grand Cayman – Royal Caribbean has snorkelling or cycling, a dive in a real submarine, a visit to a turtle farm and a lot more. Or you can do as we did: Grab a taxi – agree a price before setting out - and head out for a day of sun, sea and sand on Seven Mile Beach.

In Cozumel, Royal Caribbean has more snorkelling, plus kayaking, fishing and golf tours, even a chance to ride a Harley Davidson motorbike around the island. We decided on a jungle hike, which turned out to be a rather

1. It’s the ultimate way to see the Caribbean. You visit several islands on one holiday and don’t have the hassle of packing and unpacking each day. Seven-night cruises typically visit four islands, go for two weeks and you could tick off 10.

2. Cruising is one of the most cost-effective ways to see the Caribbean. Remember the price includes all accommodation, food and entertainment. And if you book now, you’ll find some amazing deals.

3. Forget the UK’s will-it, won’t-it summer. Cruise the Caribbean and you can enjoy guaranteed sunny days, blue skies and even bluer seas.

4. There’s so much to do in the Caribbean. Laze on a beach or get the adrenaline pumping on an adventurous day out. Zipwiring or power boating anyone?

5. The Caribbean area was fought over long and hard by the French and British in the 18th and 19th centuries so there’s history and culture – and the pirates’ past - to discover in between the fun in the sun days.

6. Choose Freedom of the Seas and the children will have a terrific holiday, with plenty to keep them active on land and lots of friends waiting to be made on the ship.

Why cruise the Caribbean?

New website is coming

Back in our January Cruise Ahoy we told you about our new redesigned website. This is still on the way and we anticipate it will be live and up and running for the 1st week in April. The delay has been due to the on-going redesign and also work to make the site quicker

and cleaner than what it currently is. Once the new site is live we believe you will only have one place to shop for your cruises as all the information you need will only be a click away.

VISIT US AT: WWW.JETLINECRUISE.COM12

New YorkOur first visit to New York was one of concern and trepidation - which of course was completely unfounded. This city is buzzing and it is certainly a place you would want to return to. If you have not been here before you must stay for at least 3 nights to fit the best bits in. The city is built on a grid of roads with Avenues running North to South and Streets running East to West. The area (known as Mid Town) immediately below Central Park is the best place to stay. This area can be defined as between 34th St ( Macys & the Empire State Building) and 57th St (Central Park). Naturally this is where the most expensive hotels are. Within this area and in walking distance are Times Square, Grand Central Station, The Rockerfeller Centre and the best shops in the 5th Ave area including Tiffanys, Abercrombie & Fitch, Bloomingdales, Crate & Barrel and Barneys. Our preferred hotels at a reasonable price would start with the 3* Ameritania or Amsterdam Court. 4* Fitzpatrick, Tudor Court Or Radisson Lexington. 5* Waldorf Astoria.

The Subway is a great way to get around particularly when travelling from one end of Mid Town to another or travelling down to Union Square area for the Flat Iron Building or the Downtown Financial district for Wall Street, Ground Zero, Brooklyn Bridge and Battery Park. Battery Park is where the boats depart from for The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We recommend going over to Brooklyn on the Subway during the day and walking back across Brooklyn Bridge for some incredible views. Also go up the Empire State Building at dusk for a magical sunset.

A car is not recommended in New York. Taxis and the subway will serve you better.

MiamiThis is a sprawling city and it generally looks much better in Films than in reality. The main place to stay is Miami South Beach which is approx 10 Miles from the airport and 2 miles from the port. Lots of hotels are situated on Collins Ave which runs the length of Miami Beach for 15 miles. At the Southern end (which is the Miami South Beach end) it starts at Address no 1 going up to about Address no 18000. So you can get a fair idea how far your hotel is from the main South Beach area by its address number on Collins Ave. If it is between 1 and 1900 then you are fairly central. The picturesque neon lit Art Deco area is situated on Ocean Drive (just off Collins Ave) which has the promenade area, main beach and trendiest bars and restaurants. Most of the hotels in this area are Art Deco older 30’s style – small with limited facilities (generally no swimming pools).

For centrally located 3 star hotels you would be looking at these smaller boutique hotels such as the Colony Hotel actually on Ocean Drive or the Kent Hotel at 1131 Collins Ave. For 4* hotels perhaps try the Doubletree Surfcomber hotel which is on the beach at 1717 Collins Ave or the Royal Palm hotel at 1545 Collins Ave. Our choice of central 5* hotels would be the Loews at 1601 Collins Ave or the 5* De Soleil hotel which is on the corner of Collins Ave and Ocean Drive. Both are on the beach with fabulous ocean views.

For something very grand in a completely different part of Miami try the Biltmore Hotel in the Coral Gables area.

A car is not recommended in Miami – parking places are scarce and expensive.

Fort LauderdaleThis is one of my favourites and a great alternative to Miami - particularly since many cruise ships sail from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. This city is known as the Venice of America where the rich and beautiful live with boats moored at the bottom of their tropical gardens. The beach here is white sand stretching as far as the eye can see with the A1A separating it from the hotels. The only hotel situated on the beach is the 4* Sheraton Yankee Clipper with a great range of facilities and it is in a great location. Although a bit tired it makes the perfect base to explore Fort Lauderdale and it is not far from the port.

Shopping is far better here than in Miami. Las Olas Boulevard is the main shopping thoroughfare with boutique style shops, some great bars and restaurants. We recommend the Floridian for sassy diner style breakfast and lunches. The most central shopping Mall is the upmarket La Galleria. This has a Macys, Abercrombie & Fitch, Banana Republic and Pottery Barn among others. The Coral Ridge Mall is well worth a visit for a home wares (Super Target ) and Old Navy the trendy discount clothing arm of GAP. For the largest mall we have ever seen try the Sawgrass Mill about 40 minutes drive from the beach west towards the Everglades. This is the largest designer outlet mall in Florida at 4 Times the size of the Arndale Centre in Manchester and the twice the size of Lakeside in Essex.

A recommended excursion is to try the Jungle Queen paddle wheel boat This runs a range of daytime trips through the canals past the big houses and expensive yachts. It also runs a great evening excursion to a little island in the back waters where they have a variety show and good ole southern BBQ. You are also ideally located for a trip to the Everglades and an airboat ride.

A car is highly recommended in Fort Lauderdale.

Extend your stay Our guide to extending your stay in the

main US cities before or after your cruise

Having travelled the States extensively - here is our opinion and first hand knowledge on the most popular cruise departure cities and land stay cities to enhance your cruise holiday.

Driving is a bit of a nightmare here as the traffic can be quite heavy and there are some serious no go areas. We would recommend staying at an airport hotel and get taxis or go on organised excursions. Must sees are: The Chinese Theatre and the Walk of Fame in Hollywood ; Rodeo Drive is relatively close by. Venice Beach is the set for many films with the buzzing promenade typical Baywatch style. Further North is Universal Studios and Magic Mountain for jaw dropping roller coasters.

Anaheim is home to Disney Land and the lesser known western theme park of Knotts Berry Farm. The Original Queen Mary is moored at the port in Long Beach this houses a restaurant, museum and Hotel. This is well worth a visit and a handy place to stay for one night before boarding your cruise. Finally Laguna Beach is a great place to visit with the more local feel of a seaside town. A car is not recommended in Los Angeles.

SeattleSeattle is a great place to stay and spend a few extra nights to explore. A cosmopolitan city with great shopping, restaurants and night life. As good as Vancouver - there is lots to do such as wander through Pike Place Market, enjoy the panoramic views from the Space Needle or even visit the Boeing factory. We found the city to be very clean and there were some great stores and trendy bars. The cruise terminal is approx a 15 minute walk from the centre of town. The Days Inn Town Centre is a good 3* hotel for those travelling on a budget; while the Executive Hotel Pacific is a well located 4* hotel. A car is not recommended in Seattle.

San Francisco San Francisco is an exciting city and one I definitely want to return to. The hub is situated around vibrant Union Square with its cosmopolitan shops and international hotels. From here the historic cable car will take you up over the hill past China Town to Fisherman’s Wharf area and Pier 39. Stop off on the way at The Coit Tower which provides an excellent vantage point. From Fisherman’s Wharf you can take boat trips out to Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Perhaps take a stroll in the Golden Gate Park – taking tea in the Japanese Garden, visiting the Botanical Gardens and end up at the beach for a great lunch overlooking the Pacific. For a more local feel visit the Castro and hippy Haight Ashbury for some vintage shopping.

The modern tram represents a great way to get around whereas the Cable Car is more of an experience rather than a means of transport. This city is seriously hilly and walking long distances is tiring. Market Street runs from the Castro area in the South West Part of the city to the Piers in the North East part of the city. This street kind of separates the more residential and tourist areas to the North from the more Industrial type areas to the South. Our recommended hotel here is the 4* Handlery Hotel in the heart of Union Square or perhaps the 3* Holiday Inn Fisherman’s Wharf. The port terminal building is the next pier along from Pier 39 and the Fisherman’s Wharf area.

A car is definitely not recommended in San Francisco. Too hilly and no where to park.

VancouverExplore all this city has to offer with it’s wonderful parks, the quaint Gas Town district and perhaps watch the sea planes come and go. A cosmopolitan city very similar to Seattle – Downtown Vancouver is situated on a Peninsula measuring approximately 1 mile wide by 1.5 miles long. On the end of the peninsula is Stanley Park which is roughly the size again of Downtown Vancouver. There are big undercover shopping centres with a slightly different selection of shops to the US. It is quite easy to get around as the city is built on a grid of roads. The Days Inn Vancouver Downtown and the Ramada Ltd Downtown are a well located 3* Hotels. The Westin Bayshore and the Metropolitan are centrally located 4* hotels. For a hotel opposite the cruise terminal try the 5* Fairmont Waterfront. There are lower priced hotels that seem to be situated along Granville Street which is home to the red light district.

The airport is situated approximately 10 Miles from the cruise port & Downtown Vancouver.A car is not necessary in Vancouver.

Las VegasThe airport is situated approx 4 miles away from the southern end of the Strip. The Las Vegas Strip runs for miles beyond the airport – but the main part starts around the pyramid shaped 4* Luxor hotel and runs north past all the themed hotels up to the 3* Stratosphere Hotel. Further on at the North end of the Strip you will find the main down town area. The strip is really the only place to stay visiting the themed attractions of the big name hotels such as New York New York, MGM Grand, Bellagio, Venetian, Paris, Circus Circus, Luxor, Treasure Island, Caesars Palace and so on. Perhaps try the Rollercoaster on the top of the Stratosphere tower!

Then of course you have the casinos and the headline shows to visit. Big name attractions away from the strip are the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and further away Monument Valley.

Las Vegas can be quite pricey for hotels if you pick the wrong time to stay. As this is the gambling capital of America hotels charge a premium to stay on a Friday and Saturday night compared to the rest of the week. Also it is convention central with many huge conventions being held throughout the year and so there are big variations in hotel prices from one week to the next.

A relatively short flight of between 45 Minutes to an hour will get you from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and San Diego. The only airline to fly direct from Las Vegas to the UK– is Virgin Atlantic into London.

A car is not particularly useful in Las Vegas.

Los AngelesThis is a huge city with many different areas separated it seems by an hour’s highway driving in either direction. The airport is kind of the most central point on the coast with Venice Beach, Hollywood and Beverley Hills to the North; Long Beach, Anaheim and Laguna beach to the south.

NCL has grown massively in the last few years what would you put this down to?

NCL has the youngest fleet of ships in the market and its newest ships have been custom built for Freestyle Cruising. This, together with the growth in itinerary choice

and having three ships based in Europe, has certainly contributed to NCL’s growth. Also, more and more people are realising the great value that cruising offers. The fact that guests can travel to multiple destinations on resort style ships offering a wide range of dining, entertainment and activities largely all included in the overall price has been drawing greater numbers of people to choose cruise holidays.

There are many mass market operators and ships, why should people cruise on NCL instead of the competition?

NCL’s cruises are based around its ‘Freestyle’ concept. We provide our guests with choice and variety so they can enjoy their holiday however they wish. Our ships offer something for everyone with up to 13 dining options including French and Italian cuisine to Teppanyaki, up to 10 styles of accommodation from inside staterooms to the glamorous Garden Villas, and a very wide variety of activities and children’s facilities.

Can you please explain the concept of the NCL cruise experience?

Freestyle Cruising is a resort-style holiday experience with no set dining times, no dress codes and complete freedom for guests to do as they please. Our ships are very fun, as you can probably tell from their vibrant artwork, and we pride ourselves on the choice, flexibility and service we provide.

What is the new ship the Epic going to mean to NCL?

Epic is our most adventurous project to date and really is a ‘next generation’ ship for us. An example is the stateroom design - we are building cabins with curved walls. We are launching the first ever ice bar at sea, as well as an entertainment area which changes function and atmosphere throughout the day, plus the inclusion of adult only VIP bars. Epic will be the epitome of Freestyle Cruising.

Are there plans to build any more Epic class of ships?

Right now we are focusing our energy on making everything perfect with Epic. We don’t currently have any plans for a sister ship, but never say never!

In your opinion what areas are going to boom in the cruising market?

In the current climate, value for money is key. With people cutting back on their holiday spend, cruise lines have to offer more bang for buck, so cruises which can offer added extras and deliver fantastic service will do well. Ex-UK and European sailings are proving very popular so far, but we believe that the Caribbean is definitely coming back in vogue. Interesting itineraries, exciting excursions, quality service and low prices will are essential to keep cruising a popular option.

How are you looking to raise your profile in the UK in the next couple of years?

NCL will continue to offer excellent cruises at attractive prices and we will also push on with looking at new ways to innovative with our ships, itineraries and service. And with the launch of Norwegian Epic there will be excellent opportunities for us to highlight NCL’s brand of Freestyle Cruising.

There has been fierce competition amongst cruise lines to capture market share cruising from Southampton. Princess have done well when they changed the popular but smaller Sea Princess to the 109,000 tonne Grand Princess. The prices below are much lower when compared to other well known cruise lines cruising from Southampton.

We believe these offers are the best around for cruising from Southampton during the high season Summer months on such a great ship with a comprehensive range of facilities (sister ship to the Golden Princess). Plus there is great availability for families and children during the school holidays. Also remember that Princess accept children on board as low as 6 months old and have great baby sitting services. Whereas other cruise lines have a much higher age limit

The Cunard Winter sale ended on the 28th February. Despite this we have managed to retain our exclusive prices for Trans Atlantic crossings. This has allowed us to continue to offer this itinerary which remains as one of our top selling offers. Availability is changing all the time - if the stateroom grades (which the fares below are based on) have been sold then the next grade up should be available at a small supplement.

This exciting offer combines 4 nights hotel stay in Toronto with a trip to Niagara Falls and a 6 night classic Trans Atlantic crossing from New York to Southampton on the Queen Mary 2.

Fly direct from Gatwick to Toronto for 4 nights hotel stay in a centrally located hotel. Toronto has a great range of shops (the undercover Eaton Centre is a must) and excellent restaurants – we recommend the Spaghetti Factory. No visit to Toronto is complete without a visit to the CN Tower with panoramic views over the city and across Lake Ontario towards the distant plumes of Niagara Falls. An escorted coach tour is included to Niagara Falls with free time to explore Niagara, a stop at the mighty Whirlpool rapids, a journey through picturesque Niagara on the Lake and stop at a winery. Plus a trip on the famous Maid of the Mist.

At the end of your Toronto stay fly direct to New York where you will join the Queen Mary 2 for a 6 night sailing back to Southampton. Departing from New York is a memorable experience as you pass the Statue of Liberty and the picturesque New York skyline fades into the distance behind the wake of the ship. Ask about optional nights hotel stay in New York for a supplement.

Sailing on the Queen Mary 2 is an experience in itself without the interruptions of ports of call. Time to rest, relax, a spot of self appreciation and absolute self indulgence. Late mornings in bed with waiter service to get you going. A leisurely breakfast, a stroll on deck and perhaps a lecture from one of the guest speakers on board. Look out for the historic wall murals dotted around the ship depicting the history of Cunard. An afternoon pint in the pub, a wallow in the Canyon Ranch Spa, then an aperitif in the Chart room before dinner. Try your hand in the Casino after the theatre then round the night off in the very stylish Commodore Club for a night cap.

The itinerary operates in reverse with Westbound cruises from Southampton to New York and an overnight flight home from Toronto.

BRAND NEW P&O AZURA - the Superliner built for Britain

As with any new ship launch there is a lot of pomp and circumstance- even more so when it is a brand new P&O cruise ship - as P&O is the only cruise line to build and operate their ships specifically for the British cruise market.

Taking her place in P&O Cruises rich history, Azura will join the fleet in April 2010; a new chapter ready to unfold. She will have her own atmosphere and feel and, just as her name conjures up images of the deep blue ocean, she will embody the thrill and romance of cruise travel. Azura (sister ship to the Ventura) will embark on 26 voyages in her maiden programme.

Unique features on this ship include: The Planet Bar with a huge 20-metre plasma screen video wall showing amazing natural and man made phenomena on the planet – changing daily. The Glass House: for resident wine expert, Olly Smith, to host tasting sessions. SeaScreen: For the first time on a P&O Cruises ship, Azura will have a large outdoor cinema screen showing a variety of classic and contemporary films.Game On: This is a dedicated ‘Wii room’ with a range of popular games and equipment offered for passengers of all ages to enjoy.3 speciality restaurants: Sindhu for Indian Cuisine. Seventeen for contemporary British Food. The Glass House the new restaurant and wine bar concept. Cover charge applicable for these restaurants as Select dining.

2 buffet restaurants: Verona & Venezia will provide varied buffet dining with a contemporary ambience. 3 main restaurants: Amber, Topaz and Jade for six-course à la carte cuisine on a Freedom dining and Club dining basis..Java: A contemporary and comfortable coffee house during the day; pre-dinner bar by night. Coral Grill and Pizzeria: The ‘poolside’ Grill and Pizzeria. The Oasis Spa: There will be a thermal suite with aromatic steam rooms and jet showers. Plus a super-heated outdoor hydrotherapy pool.

Programme highlights include her Maiden Cruise, which is a 16 night classic Mediterranean cruise including a call into Venice, her two day call in St. Petersburg on her Baltic itinerary and her 29 night Christmas & New Year Caribbean cruise, which spends two days in New Orleans. These cruises will be available for everyone to book from Monday 30th March.

Another great feature from the launch programme is low single supplements starting from as little as 45%. There are also huge discounts (as much as 80% off) for children when sharing with two adults.

As with any preview programme – the idea is to book early and grab the most popular cruises at the lowest possible prices before they sell out or go up in price. As P&O is one of the oldest cruise lines in the UK there is a huge following and interest when a new P&O ship is launched. We have selected below what we predict to be the most popular cruises.

Mediterranean: Cruise 16nts from Southampton to – Malaga -Katakolon (Olympia Greece) – Corfu – Dubrovnik – Venice – Korcula (Croatia) – Gibraltar – Southampton.

Short Break: Cruise 7 nights from Southampton to Dublin – Cork – Bilbao – Brest – Southampton.

• ON SALE FROM 1ST APRIL 2009

With the introduction of Queen Elizabeth Cunard will be celebrating a new golden age of ocean liner travel. This gracious new Cunarder will take up residence in Southampton in October 2010 and embark upon 6 maiden voyages.

As sister ship to Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth will recall the rich heritage of the first Cunarders to bear the name with details and features from her predecessors Queen Elizabeth and QE2. Her art deco flourishes will echo the legendary golden age of ocean travel and the activities she offers onboard such as traditional supper clubs with dancing and a Cunard Classic Film Club, will captivate regular Cunard guests and those new to the brand alike.

Her opulent public rooms include a soaring and graceful Grand Lobby stretching over 3 decks with stunning curved staircases, and a double height Queens Room with specially commissioned stained glass panels, ornate balconies and an intricate wooden dance floor. Her new Garden Lounge, with its fabulous conservatory style roof inspired by the glass houses at Kew gardens, will offer dining and dancing under the stars, and the spacious Games Deck will offer a range of unique activities including lawn bowling, croquet and paddle tennis and will play host to refined and elegant garden parties.

Queen Elizabeth boasts a new Britannia Club Restaurant which offers guests staying in AA Club Balconies a luxurious and elegant single seating restaurant, introduced due to the popularity of this concept on Queen Mary 2. She will also provide more flexibility for families with a selection of 4 berth staterooms.

During her maiden season she will cover a variety of destinations including voyages to the historic Mediterranean, the charming Canary Islands, the enthralling Aegean and a Maiden Season Christmas voyage to the Caribbean.

This glorious new addition to the fleet marks the next glittering chapter in Cunard’s great history.
