TEST TIME

To prepare for his public ministry, Jesus is tested by Satan three times in the desert.

To prepare for Easter, I am invited into a spiritual desert to strengthen my faith.

My test: Will I do that this Lent?

Th e Lord Jesus loves our brothers and sisters who are ill. With trust let us pray to him that he will comfort them with His grace. -Rite of Anointing of the Sick

Sue Wilkerson, Charlene Burton, Maria Zequeira, Shirley Guilliams, and Anthony Navarro.

In your hands, O Lord, we humble entrust our brothers and sisters. In this life you embraced them with your tender love, deliver them now from every evil, and bid them eternal rest. -USCCB

Angelica Juana Delaney, Lucille Danna, Sr. Paula Enderle, O. P., and Maria Ullrich.

If you are ill, or know someone who is ill in need of prayer, please email Ann Cashiola at: [email protected] or call her at (713)403-4161

Current Shine Middle School Series: Can I Ask That? (For Grades 6-8)Teenagers are tired of vague, superfi cial, or nonexistent answers to their tough questions about God. Who is God? Can we even know if God is real? What proof is there that God exists? What does this mean for my life? The question of the existence of God is one that can change the entire course of a person’s life. This series, “Can I Ask That?” will address questions about God and some of the biggest stumbling blocks in believing that God exists. In laying out foundational truths about God, the goal of this series is for middle school youth to see that it is reasonable to believe that God exists and that, through faith, they can know God and be in a relationship with Him. Shine is our weekly ministry for middle schoolers grades 6-8 on Sunday nights from 6-7:30pm, after the 5pm Mass – all teens and their families are welcome and encouraged to attend the 5pm Mass! Join us every week for food, faith, and fun as we journey in community as disciples on mission in the good life God has planned for us. It doesn’t matter if you go to Catholic School or Non-Catholic School, if you are in 6th, 7th or 8th grade Shine is for YOU.

Current Awaken High School Series: Doubt It (Grades 9-12)Miracles are fascinating. Scripture is overfl owing with accounts of God controlling nature, healing the sick, and raising people from the dead. The Church consistently investigates and approves miracles attributed to the intercession of saints. Miracles can and should strengthen our faith in God, but so often they are easy to doubt. "Doubt It" is an Awaken series that will challenge high school teens to have expectant faith in God, who performs miracles as a way of revealing His power and goodness. Awaken is our program on Sunday nights for high school students in grades 9-12 beginning with the 5pm Sunday evening Mass, and continuing after Mass until 7:30 pm. At Awaken, high school students join a small group where they can go deeper with one another and their adult mentors, and form life-long friendships through the good, tough, and just busy times of high school.

9 F IRST SUNDAY OF LENT

St. Joseph's Altar

Th e Saint Joseph Altar started in Sicily in the Middle Ages. A drought ravaged the country and people were starving. Th ey prayed to St. Joseph and the drought ended. As a sign of the thanks and devotion, an altar was built every year on, or near, his feast day to thank him and to pray for intercessions on his behalf. St. Michael the Archangel was founded by the descendants of Sicilian immigrants who brought the tradition with them to their new homes in the USA.

On Sunday the program begins with the "Tupa Tupa"(knock knock in Italian). People dressed as the Holy Family, re-enact knocking on doors seeking shelter, as the Holy Family did before Christ's birth, until fi nally, they are welcomed to a special table set with food. Aft erwards, a meal is served for all who attend. Th e altar and meal are available to all parishioners of St. Michael the Archangel and the community at large.

March 28 Blessing of the Altar Following 5pm MassMarch 29 Tupa Tupa Following 11am Mass Traditional Meal Served Until 2pm.. .For more information regarding volunteering, sponsorship, or learning how you can help, contact John Sicola: [email protected] or 832-722-5555.

Th e requested donation is $10 per person. All proceeds will be donated to patronages of St. Joseph. Th e Family and Unborn Children Patron of the Sick and Elderly And to feed the hungry in our community. . .
