© 2020 iseeit! productions A Closer Look - Easter Curriculum WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE ACTIVITY: As the children are putting the pieces of pipe cleaners on the pencil, you will tell them the meaning of each color. You will end with the yellow/ gold pipe cleaner creating a cross for the top. SAY DURING THE ACTIVITY: We are going to make a special pencil to help us tell the story of what Jesus has done for us. As we talk about each color, pick up that colored pipe cleaner and wrap it around the pencil starting in the middle of the pencil. We will start with black. (See pictures at the end of this help sheet.) Black - What does the black color represent? (Sin.) What is sin? (Sin is things we do that GOD does not want us to do, the actions that are not pleasing to Him.) Sin is a big problem because it separates us from GOD here on earth and will separate us from Him forever when we die. That is the punishment for our sin. Next, wrap the red pipe cleaner above the black piece on your pencil. Red - What does the red represent? (Jesus’ blood.) Jesus died for us on the cross, to take the punishment for the wrong things we do, for our sin. Now attach the white piece of pipe cleaner above the red one. White - What does white represent? (Clean or pure.) When we admit before GOD that we have sinned, believe that Jesus died on the cross for those sins, and when we choose to follow Him, GOD will take away our sins and He will see us as pure, without sin. Now let’s take the longer piece of gold/yellow and make it into a cross: SUMMARY: Through this activity, children will learn the story of Easter and what Jesus did for them by dying on the cross. They will also learn that we should always worship Jesus because of what He has done for us. I Worship Jesus For What He Has Done! LESSON 2 Jesus Story Pencil SUPPLIES: • Pencils (1 per child) • Black, Red, White and Gold/Yellow Pipe Cleaners (see Set Up note below) SET-UP: Cut the black, red, and white pipe cleaners into 4” pieces. Leave the gold/yellow pipe cleaners their full length. Each child will get three 4” pieces (black, red, and white) and one full length pipe cleaner (gold/yellow). Set out materials. Have a sample of the finished product.

(Continued.)

Jesus Story Pencil

Attach it to the top of the pencil.

Begin by making a loop on one end of the pipe cleaner (leaving approximately a four inch tail).

Fold the tail portion of the pipe cleaner (the shorter portion) in half.

Bring the end across the loop and twist.

Fold the remainder in half again.

Bring the short end to the back of the stick.

Secure it to the back by twisting it around the back of one of the loops. Okay, let’s attach the remainder of the gold/yellow pipe cleaner above the white pipe cleaner on the pencil. Gold/Yellow - What does the color gold/yellow represent? (Heaven.) By asking Jesus to be our Savior, when we die, we will get to go to Heaven and spend forever with GOD.

Jesus died on the cross so that our sins could be forgiven and we can spend forever with Him in Heaven. Use this pencil often to remind you of what Jesus did for you. When you see this pencil, worship Jesus and tell Him thank you for all He has done for you.

If you have questions about what we talked about today, be sure to ask me or one of your leaders and we would love to answer your questions and pray with you.

Let’s say our Exclamation Point together: I Will Worship Jesus For What He Has Done! What has Jesus done? Jesus forgave us of our sins!
