Jesus was man andGod (please note the bold red text). Jesus is God in the visible, physicalworld that we know and live in. God has to come into this world to make a sacrifice of Himselfby His own sinless blood that hasn't been tainted by Original Sin in order to wash away thesins of all the people of Humankind. It is the pinnacle of all sacrifices made and is the one andonly sacrifice ever needed to be set free from sin, (see the Old Testament for how and whysacrifices were made - they all foreshadow Christ's crucifixion).

These Old Testament sacrifices could only be done by a priest and one done annually. Theyhad to keep on sacrificing for the people and sacrifice had to be made for the priest himselffor his own sins, but Christ was/is spotless and sinless and is the perfect High Priest to offerHimself as sacrifice one time and one time only. Only God could do this. Only God is pure, spotless and sin-free. So only God Himselfcould be a worthy sacrifice offering for the sake ofthe people of the world, that is, God in a human physical form - Jesus.Colossians 1:

15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,

16 for through him God created everythingin the heavenly realms and on earth.

He made the things we can see

and the things we cant seesuch as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.

Everything was created through him and for him.17He existed before anything else,

and he holds all creation together.18 Christ is also the head of the church,

which is his body.He is the beginning,

supreme over all who rise from the dead.So he is first in everything.

19 For God in all his fullnesswas pleased to live in Christ,

20 and through him God reconciled

everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth

by means ofChrists blood on the cross.21 This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated

from him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22 Yet now he has reconciled you to himselfthrough the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his ownpresence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.

So, therefore, it is by and through the sacrifice of Jesus that we are saved and maderighteous by His death on the cross:Romans 3:

21But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which theLaw and the Prophets testify. 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in JesusChrist to all who believe. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of theglory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that cameby Christ Jesus. 25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in hisblood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sinscommitted beforehand unpunished 26he did it to demonstrate his justice at the presenttime, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.27Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law?

No, but on that of faith. 28For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observingthe law. 29Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentilestoo, 30since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and theuncircumcised through that same faith. 31Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all!

    Rather, we uphold the law.
