VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY

Participated in a 10 day nursing trip to the Dominican Republic as one of 18 students - the trip was the culmination of a 7 month long preparatory period.

Responsible for gathering medications and medical supplies, publicizing the trip, learning about the Dominican and the common conditions seen there and learning Spanish.

Organizing and conducting nursing clinics in areas the poorer people had little or no access to health care services, clean water and sanitation facilities.

Assessed and treated upwards of 800 people during the week; visited a general hospital and visit homes.

ST. JOSEPH’S HEALTHCARE HAMILTON 2013CLINICAL PLACEMENT Preformed duties of a scrub nurse role. Practiced mostly in General surgery laproscopically, some head and neck. Safely maintained and maneuvered around the sterile field.

LEE MANOR LONG TERM CARE 2012CONSOLIDATION (MAY – JUNE) Performed patient assessments, administered medication, provided wound care and inhalant treatments. Assisted with full range of unit patient care and administrative duties to support operational efficiency. Compiled information and wrote reports for review and submission to Senior Staff.

GREY BRUCE HEALTH SERVICES IN MENTAL HEALTH 2012CONSOLIDATION (JUNE – JULY) Completed various clinical duties associated with patient rounds, assessments, admissions, vitals. Provided comprehensive client care while maintaining confidentiality. Attended care conference with the doctors, pharmacists, and nursing staff, staff report. Admitted and managed complete care responsibility for 3 patients in locked unit by the end of term.
