This project was to research multiple existing departments at CIA and determine what thecurrent problems are with the existing furniture, with the intent of solving these problemsthrough a furniture design that addresses these issues. The new furniture designs are meantto not only solve these problems, but also t in with the new CIA building aesthetics and itsstudio space specics, such as its 7 x 7 . This project was also a collaboration with APOC (APiece Of Cleveland). APOC supplied students with reclaimed lumber from deconstructedhomes in the Cleveland area.

Smart spaces are rooms whereclasses, meetings, conferences, and presentations happen.Currently some art classrooms areworking also as smart spaces.

Sta oces are cramped, connedand have limitedworkspace for daily tasks.

research:The project required us to break up into groups and interview individuals and documentdierent areas of the Institute. The end result was a culmination of the two groups in-formation compiled together on a big wall for us to dissect and review before enteringthe concept phase. the four areas researched were Sta oces, I.M.E. (Integrated MediaEnvironment), Public spaces, andTechnology enabled classrooms .

I.M.E. stands for Integrated MediaEnvironment and is where visualmedia majors spend most of theirtime. Studios arent generallyseparated, therefore space andprivacy are major issues.

Public spaces are exactly whatthey sound like. Student lounges, galleries, and studio hangoutsconstitute public spaces and we

    have very few of them.

think:After collecting the information and ltering it to understand it in thesimplest way, I began drawing out my ideas for each area trying to teach one with the determined issues per area. We were required tocome up with at least 5 concepts for each space.

conceive:The concepts I developed are specic per area to explore simplesolutions to the problems discovered through research.

Some of the problems I discoveredin products on the market were

temperature control issues, quantitymeasurement, easy, quick washing, dishwasher safe, ergonomic, energy

    ecient, compact, and generally moreattractive.

I looked into the forms of Ethiopianculture, natural colors of coee berries

Ogo is a single cup brewer for the youngergeneration. Stylish, sleek, and simple touse. This appliance also interacts with thegrinder and mug in similar ways. Ecienyand aesthetic are prominent in ogo.

The lter on ogo is simple toclean and even simpler toattach. by inserting the lterinto the plastic part, you justsnap the two into the watertight tting in the top.

The indicators on the lid play aestheticallywhen attached but when o act asmeasurement markers for coee beans.

The extra cord allows the grinder to be usedwith the ogo brewer. By attaching the cordfrom breve to ogo you utilize the outlet ogois plugged in limiting power usage.

Awo is a mug meant to spark coversationbased on its sculptural curves. The way it canbe held is up to interpretation by the usergiving them a sense of ownership to thisunique ceramic item.

Awo has a dimple in the saucer and in thebottom of the mug so that it can sit nicelywhen idle.

I went through the process of making a mold and slip casting the mug andsaucer to get a sense of production methods.

    project.

The design language project is typically focused around rebranding an already

existing brand that is lacking or not keeping with the times and bring it up to

speed through contemporary trends in design and culture. This project was to

take a prolic designer and artists life and career and create a brand from that.

Viktor Schreckengost has designed so many objects in this world throughout

his life but has never had his own brand or business, always working for other

    companies.

    americanda vinci.

Every adult in America has ridden in, ridden on, drunk out of, stored their things

in, eaten o of, been costumed in, mowed their lawn with, played on, lit the

night with, viewed in a museum, cooled their room with, read about, printed

with, sat on, placed a call with, enjoyed in a theater, hid their hooch in, collected,

been awarded with, seen at the zoo, put their owers in, hung on their wall,

served punch from, delivered milk in, seen at the Worlds Fair, detected enemy

combatants with, written about, had an arm or leg replaced with, graduated

from, protected by, or seen at the White House something created byViktor

    Schreckengost.

Called an American da Vinci by so many that discover him, the breadth and

depth of his work is staggering by any measure. A pioneer of modern American

industrial design, prolic sculptor, painter, and ceramist, his works are soughtby and held in major private and public collections across the United States and

    around the world.

Schreckengosts crowning achievement was his creation of the rst industrial

design education program in America in the 1930s. For nearly 70 years, he

trained generations of leading industrial designers. His impact on the countrys

    economy far exceeds $200 billion.

    the idea.

J Dilla was a prominent hip-hop Dj, producer, and emcee havinginuenced many major players in the hip-hop community and leavinga dramatic mark on the scene and culture. In 2006 the great producertragically passed away from the blood disease Lupus leaving manystunned and shocked missing his amazing music and production.

His mother Ma Dukes has been left with temendous debt from thegovernment and also suers from the same disease that took her son. Soit was only tting that as a massive J Dilla fan and hip-hop addict I wouldwith the help of my room-mate ( DJ tuggle) organize a tribute to his lifeand career and a benet to raise money to help his mother pay the bills. With the support of some local Cleveland stores we managed to collectenough merchandise to rae and host the event at local undergroundnightclub B-Side Liquor Lounge we made it happen. We had a linearound the block, 5 killer DJs and $1,200 to send to ma Dukes. Goodnight in all.

    play hard.

My work and the time I spend on it is the most important thing to me.Falling into industrial design from being a chef, caterer, camp counselor, and artist has not only changed my life, it has become my life.

Outside of working I think it is very important and necessary to enjoyyourself and indulge in the little things. I have been an avid skateboarderfor 10 years now, hockey enthusiast, art addict, hype-head, hip-hophooked, and just in general willing to experience and try new things.
