JERSEY OPERA HOUSE
2 www.jerseyoperahouse.co.uk
British Poet Lord Byron said “always laugh when you can, it is cheap medicine” so consider Jersey Opera House a cure for all this Autumn Season with our fantastic comedy line-up. We have a whole host of star-studded stand-up starting in September with Ardal O’Hanlon and then Canadian comics Stewart Francis, Craig Campbell and Glenn Wool are...The Lumberjacks. Milton Jones, Reginald D Hunter, Ed Byrne and Lee Hurst finish off 2013 and then Stephen K Amos takes us into 2014 - when we have plenty more laughs in store for you!
Keeping with comedy, we see the return of Monkey Poet in our Studio with Love (Hurts) Actually, David Dale performs his semi-autobiographical Pink For A Boy, and Nikki McCretton touches down in her Tin Rocket, while local artists taking off are Jooj duQuemin and the Plays Rough playwrights and performers.
For me, the highlight of the season is the return of global phenomenon Motionhouse. Following the worldwide success of Scattered, the dance company is bringing us its latest work, Broken by Kevin Finnan, who choreographed and directed Movement for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympics.
NOT JUST FOR LAUGHS!
Other shows to look out for are The Johnny Cash Roadshow and tribute band UK Pink Floyd Experience, plus the return of our increasingly popular screenings from the National Theatre Live (Richard II with David Tennant, Frankenstein, Othello, Hamlet) and The Met Opera (Eugene Onegin, The Nose, Tosca, Falstaff).
So whether you need a laugh or fancy something completely different, Jersey Opera House should be just the ticket to take you into 2014!

CHEF’S CHOICEOur OH! Cafébar Head Chef Peter O’Neill and Chef Andrei Bejan cook up a storm on a daily basis for breakfast, lunchtime and pre-show supper customers. They’re pretty talented so we wanted to showcase their skills with a Chefs’ Night. Starting on Friday 20th September, we will host a regular evening, when there isn’t a show on, for the Catering Team to demonstrate its culinary excellence. To give you a taster, dishes will include pan-seared Jersey scallops, beef wellington, and Peter’s signature dessert, Jersey black butter crème brulée. Sign up to our e-newsletter at www.jerseyoperahouse.co.uk to receive notification of forthcoming Chefs’ Nights.
RETURN OF THE FESTOH! Cafébar is taking part in Tennerfest once again this year and we’re delighted to be offering the same great prices but even better value. We’re also once again running the menu for a longer period this year, from 1st October until the end of November. Choose any two courses for £12.50 or three for £15 from a wonderful selection of dishes. Check out our Tennerfest Menu at www.jerseyoperahouse.co.uk/oh-cafebar/menus/

ARDAL O’HANLON
Tickets Adults: £20Concessions: £18Performance Time 8pm
Father Ted star, Ardal O‘Hanlon, is delighted to present his latest stand-up show for 2013. The style is observational, the subject matter Life itself, and the default expression is one of utter disbelief!
Lurking beneath Ardal’s mild-mannered demeanour resides a sharp and probing comic brain. Sometimes thoughtful, sometimes silly, but always punchy, he has tickled audiences all over the world.
In a comprehensive set, he talks about not just the things that matter but also about the things that don’t matter at all - which covers pretty much everything.

We know what you’re looking for. You, with your wandering eyes…
And we’re going to give it to you. We’re going to give it to you Rough, on the last Tuesday of the month, for a crumpled fiver stuffed into our sweaty palms.
You don’t even have to talk to us afterwards.
We don’t dress up much. No set. We’ll do this script in hand too, if it suits us.
What do you get? A fistful of short plays, some music and some poetry maybe. Just the cream of what the island’s creative best
has been working on over the last month or two.
Plays Rough is a regular showcase for Jersey’s writing community, presenting new plays as performed readings in a lively and informal studio setting. Adding in a dash of music and other stuff, it makes for an inspiring (and cheap) taster of the creative talent on offer in the Island.

The National Theatre presents a major new production of William Shakespeare’s celebrated play about the destructive power of jealousy.
Olivier Award-winning actor Adrian Lester (BBC’s Hustle) takes the title role in this contemporary interpretation of this classic which shifts from London to a British military base in Cyprus.
Playing opposite him as the duplicitous Iago is fellow Olivier Award-winner Rory Kinnear (James Bond: Skyfall), who is reunited with director Nicholas Hytner (One
Man, Two Guvnors) following their acclaimed collaboration on the National Theatre’s production of Hamlet.
Othello, newly married to Desdemona – who is half his age – is appointed leader of a major military operation. Iago, passed over for promotion by Othello in favour of the young Cassio, persuades Othello that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair.

Woodcarver Geppetto decides to make a marionette from a magical piece of wood which he calls Pinocchio.
To Geppetto’s dismay, Pinocchio turns out to be a mischievous, naughty puppet who is easily distracted by a fox and a cat and soon forgets the Blue Haired Fairy’s good advice.
Following Collodi’s original tale, after Pinocchio is turned into a donkey and then swallowed by a
shark, he finally achieves his greatest wish - to become a real boy.

THE COLOUR OF WHITEIN THE STUDIO CrEATED & PrESENTED By JOOJ DUQUEmIN
What is colour? How do we see it? What influences the way we perceive it? Is my blue the same as yours? And is white a colour?
Local artist and photographer Jooj duQuemin explores these questions in the form of a quest for the colour of white.
Through a marriage of art and science, experience colour, shadow and 3D illusions. Is what you see real? What are the factors influencing your vision?
Performance, interaction and humour combine to create a truly unique evening of entertainment.
makin projects proudly presents award-winning performer Niki McCretton in an evening of comedy, stand-up, space travel and scones.
Niki delivers honest, ludicrous,
touching, varied, unexpected, visual and very silly stand-up.

Jersey Opera House is thrilled to be screening the first ever broadcast from the stage of the Royal Shakespeare Company. The sell-out production of Richard II, the fastest selling show in the RSC’s history, stars David Tennant in the title role.
Richard is King, ordained by God to lead his people. However, he is also a man of very human weakness; a man whose vanity threatens to divide the great houses of England and drag his people into a dynastic civil war which will last 100 years.

THE HABIT OF ARTENCORE SCREENING
National Theatre Live’s 2010 broadcast of Alan Bennett’s acclaimed play The Habit of Art, with the late Richard Griffiths, Alex Jennings and Frances de la Tour, is being screened as part of the National Theatre’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Benjamin Britten, sailing uncomfortably close to the wind with his new opera, Death in Venice, seeks advice from his former collaborator and friend, W H Auden. During this imagined meeting, their first for 25 years, they are observed and interrupted by, amongst others, their future biographer and a young man from
the local bus station.
Alan Bennett’s play looks at the unsettling desires of two difficult men, and at the ethics of biography. It reflects on growing old, creativity and inspiration, and persisting when all passion is spent: ultimately, the habit of art.www.ntlive.nationaltheatre.org.uk/
