ALL CROWN POINT SCHOOLS ARE CANCELLED MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH:

In respect of the funeral service and procession for Officer Nickolaus Schultz and the need for the City of Crown Point to close streets for several hours, all schools in the Crown Point Community School Corporation and all offices will be closed on Monday, September 15th. There will be no classes, child care or extra-curricular ac-

tivities on Monday, September 15th.

Where were you on September 11th, 2001?

This was a popular ques#on I heard yesterday, both on

the news and while talking with colleagues. My son, Ja-

cob, was about a month old and I was on maternity leave.

Not being one to watch morning news programs, I heard

that the second plane had hit while I was driving my other

son to school. I remember the nonstop news coverage,

the oddity of no planes in perfect blue skies, and the debilita#ng days of fear.

Yesterday, I asked a group of 5th graders what the significance of September

11th was and one said, “Oh, I read a book about that!” I shouldn’t be sur-

prised by their response because none of our students were even born in

2001! However, it felt strange to see how unaffected our students are by the

events of that terrible day. It does make me thankful to live in a rela#vely

safe country, one in which we are free to travel and our children receive a

great educa#on.
