Meet Jessica - Your Order Desk Concierge

For those of you who I haven’t met face to face, I am Jessica Bacon. I have been part of the Jerrol’s family for 13 years now. I get to talk to you most often as the Business Order Desk for Kittitas and now Grant County. My responsibilities include receiving, researching, and answering your office products

questions. I also source your orders with our vendor partners for next day delivery and oversee the purchasing for the Art and Office Supply departments in the store.

You would think all of this would be enough to keep a girl busy…….but, on

top of this I am also a wife of 11 years to my wonderful husband Frank (Co-Owner of Don’s Leather Shop outside Ellensburg) and a full time mother to 2 wonderful boys.

Tyler who just turned 6, and Jacob who is 9. Tyler is my rowdy, high energy boy who is very out spoken and Jacob is my quiet, silly, big hearted kiddo. Both of my boys are very involved in sports. They participate in basketball, wrestling and will be starting up baseball in the spring. This will also be Jacob’s first year of 4-H. He will be showing a hog at the county fair this fall. My “HOME TIME” is consumed with cooking, cleaning, helping out with homework, sports practices at least 3 nights a week, 4-H meetings, and squeezing in as much play time with my boys as possible!! As you can see every waking minute of my day is pretty well spoken for. While I love every minute of it and would not change it for the world, I do understand the importance of efficiency and time. So believe me when you say you need something in a rush, I know exactly what you mean, and will do my best to make it happen. I sincerely enjoy the interaction I have with my clients and love getting to know each one of you. Hopefully this will help you get to know me a little better, so the next time you speak to me on the phone you’ll have a little better idea of who you are talking to!

I believe that one must work hard but smart to be able to enjoy life. Save money, pay bills, help others, invest in your own and others business . Wait for it… BOOM! Luck is hard work, perseverance, and timing. Do not let dreams die. If your loved one or family says it’s a waste of time see why. Take business classes, listen to people that are established, and listen to others who are in a better place to learn. If you find that your dream doesn’t make you money quite yet then invest time in something that will bring the money to get your DREAM accomplished. Spring is Just Around the Corner The winter season is coming to an end and spring is around the corner! My parents survived a pending foreclosure, my father’s cancer is in remission, and great business ventures are on the horizon. In November my father started having health problems and in December he was diagnosed with a tumor in the colon. We were all worried and very upset because cancer was going to take my father away from our family. I have always studied a lot on alternative medicine and conventional medicine to see what is new and appropriate in certain circumstances. I will say this, I do not give medical advice. Always go see a trained professional, I am not a doctor. My father changed his diet, walked more, my family has become more encouraging and united and we gave my father less stress! We prayed. We prayed day and night all of us. This month my father no longer has cancer. Do look up Dr. Coldwell if you get a chance… In the spring I help my parents with the yard and garden. We have pear trees, apple trees, and peach trees. We also have a lot of landscaping to tend to. Rose bushes, lilies, tulips, and the list goes on and on. In the spring I also like to go out with my brothers and play basketball, go to laser tag in Spokane, visit my uncle and family in Quincy and do big barbecues to welcome the coming season. We ride four wheelers and ride horses. I like to visit the city, by that I mean Seattle, go out to the opera, horse carriage ride out on the town, and tune in on any events or concerts. My favorite places to see of the many landmark attractions (there are so many!) are Pikes Market, South Center mall, Cheesecake Factory, Imusic, and many more..

Once again, I rallied and repeated the process and with a very sore back and cramping biceps I was satisfied I had won the battle. Sadly I was wrong – very wrong. By now, there was not enough growing season left to plant anything. I was quite angry!

I have reached out to a few of you for advice on safely getting rid of the weeds – thank you for your input. If any of you have more ideas or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to let me know!!

I am looking forward to being out in the quiet garden on warm summer days, watching the cat roll around in the dirt and stalk the deer while listening to the osprey and eagle calls from above. I like using seeds from our local seed company Irish Eyes. I’ve had good luck with their seeds and soon it will be time to sprout them indoors. Have a wonderful month!!

The Joy of Gardening (Part 1) During the winter, the war I waged last year lay dormant. Thankfully. But with all this warm weather we’ve had lately (not to mention while walking to the mailbox today I noticed that Jerrols’ Daffodils are already up 4”!!) I was forced to start thinking about the war again. I need to prepare and get ready! Last year I lost the battle, however this year I fully intend to win!! What kind of war you ask? The War on Weeds!! Here’s what my garden looked like only a week ago, right after all the snow melted – It’s already getting green! Ugg!

Nestled around the picturesque propane tank there are 6 raised beds for vegetables and flowers. The previous owners must have spent a fortune on bagged soil because the raised beds had excellent soil and the weeds were fairly manageable when we first moved in 2.5 years ago. Notice I said “had” and “were”? That’s because we decided it would be a great idea to add horse manure to the beds. Talk about things in life you totally regret… Well this is definitely one of them!! Now we have a serious weed problem! To be honest, I can’t stand the thought of going through another agonizing year of trying to get rid of those stubborn weeds. What a pain! Last year I decided to wage war with the shovel as my weapon. The bed behind the propane tank was the worst! I dug down 18 – 24” and turned every inch of that soil over, banged all the dirt out of every weedy sod clump and sifted the clean soil back into the boxes. This only seemed to invigorate the weeds! Like Arnold on Steroids, they came back …with a vengeance!
