Meeting 779 13 Feb 14And - 15-16 Feb 14
Welcome
Yes, the Mezzaganda has made another surprise appearance to celebrate the
success of the Relay for Life. More to follow in this issue.
Pres Paul welcomed everyone to meeting 779 and asked Sue Roger to read the
Charge to Australia and invited Pam to toast Rotary International and the Rotary
Club of Narooma.
Pres Paul welcomed our regular social member Vera and our honorary member,
Alex to the meeting this evening,

Jerraganda business:
From the Desk of the President:
From our last Board Meeting: (Just a couple of points.yeah.right!)
Due to my work commitment, we had the last Board Meeting by telephone, and as per
usual, there was the predictable disrespect. The phone kept dropping out or was that
David Baileys finger on the mute button?
Nothing really exciting transpired. We didnt have a Jan Board meeting due to holidays
and absence of members.
Last quarter financials were passed through successfully.
Not much activity by Directors over the last couple of months, however if you have been tracking
the outstanding issues from previous Board minutes you will note that several items have been
cleared from the list.

Reports: Club Service:Thankyou Paul for standing up and speaking up!
Weekly Clean Up: Our fearless Director advised that we seem to be back to the
same old, same old people cleaning up. (Note from Editor: I have volunteered to
take over on more than one occasion (after I have packed up my laptop), but the
same old same old refuse to give up the sink. Other Rotarians have experienced
the same. Suggest same old, same old step away from the sink!).
Gas Freezer: There is a need to dispose of the gas freezer which is no good for the
container as it cant cope with the heat. Any ideas on how to sell this, let Paul
Robey know. It is a good sized chest freezer and has the plastic trays at the top, however does
require a degree of ventilation. Let Paul know if you are aware of anyone who would be interested
and prefers to use gas; it is in excellent condition. Terry asked if we are paying rental on the gas
bottles. From Pres Paul: good question Terry. Will refer to the Treas.
Club uniforms: There doesnt seem to be a specified Club uniform. Members seem to have been
purchasing their own. Some members agreed that we should have a uniform and there is a
company in Hume which will make ones and twos. Anton volunteered to investigate further:
Step 1. Look at the suite of what is available,
Step 2. Scope the best deal.

Looking for students for youth exchange program and two students coming to talk
to the club next week.

Heads and Tails:
Attendance:
Attendance tonight was 72% however, those with a good memory will remember that
David recently had a birthday and turned an impressive 73 years, so. 7+3 = 10
which in percentage numbers is a hundred percent. Bring on the Port and Baileys!
Farmers Market Corner:
From the Pen of Paul Robey
I cannot explain why we had such as low return, as the markets seemed to be pretty well attended, even though thereare still a lot of the usual stall holders away. Perhaps the rain and cooler weather are an explanation for the drinks.
I shared the gate duty with Kerry. His was the only shift that drew the rain!
I delivered the two boxes of the Bags which I picked up from Anne. I think we ended up using some of this new stock.
From our perspective the markets seemed to run pretty well. I noted that more of the Hall Rotary members seem to beengaging us about the support we provide, including one or two thankyous. For the first time that I have experienced, the Hall Rotary organisers provided us with a newsletter that they issue to all stall holders. It turned out to be a greathelp in answering some of the questions that we were posed by market customers. If we have not already done so, Irecommend that we should seek a briefing on the daily issues as part of our market set-up procedure. I know that wemay get some of this from Tamara informally, but it would be nice to formalise the process with Hall Rotary.
Anton Pemmer came along to measure up our little space as the first step in developing options to present a moreprofessional Rotary front to the public. Now that Anton has initiated this process, I am more aware than ever of the
trash and treasure look of the tables as currently set-up.
Finally, most of us on gate duty have experienced the lady who presents a tattered card with a dubious writtenauthority to park on-site. Cynthia and Tamara certainly know of her antics. I told the lady that her privilege has beenwithdrawn from 1 March she did not take this well (she has relatives in a fruit cake). So we probably need to includesome sort of advisory for those rostered on market duty for the next month or two.
Thank you, Paul.

All in all, a fantastic effort by everyone who attended and a great job of fundraising between the
three teams. As of today, Queanbeyan Relay for Life has raised $81,417.00 with more money to
come in. Our Team tallies were:
Mez's Roaming Elders - $2664.00 and still counting;
Chobbsette's Chums - $1875.00 and no doubt still counting;
Happy Hippies - $1560.00 and dare I say still counting???
This year was the most challenging Relay for Life to date, and I was so proud to be a part of such a
stalwart group of people. Thankyou to everyone who came along and supported us and in particular
to those generous Rotarians who, unable to participate, donated generously to the cause.
Well done us!!!!

OUR HISTORY
In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club
based in Jerrabomberra. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll ofmentor (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President).
Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on
18 November 1998 with 20 members. We are an unusual club as we have a very high proportion of female Members.
Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Storethe venue was very good until we grew in
numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years. We now meet at the
Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). As at 26 Jan 2014 the Club has 26 members
11 female and 15 male. Included in this are seven married couples. We also have 4 supporters of the Rotary Club.
(Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club bulletin and a design for the
Club banner. There were some good and (very) bad suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name;
Jerraganda. The banner design by David Stevens was eventually selected. The design incorporates a goose and the
windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate.
