Charter Committee meeting preceding at 5:45.   Free Book You will find a Skippyjon Jones book in your child’s Tuesday folder. This was a free give away from Scholastic books, so every child got one. It’s yours to keep.  Reading groups I have finished up the first trimester assessments with each child. This has given me a great deal of information about where each child is on his/her journey toward becoming a reader. I will be changing the groups for centers to meet the needs of the children. During conferences I will have an opportunity to show you where you child is on his/her path. This is an exciting time in kindergarten! Soon your child will be reading to you from his/her own reading basket during our morning reading time. Red (Purple) Ribbon Week Your child came home with a purple wrist band given out by the district for “Red Ribbon” week. In kindergarten I see this as an opportunity to begin talking about healthy choices for our bodies. In the older grades there will be more discussion about drug and alcohol, or substance, use. In kinder we talk briefly about smoking & alcohol, but try to keep the focus on making healthy choices. This will lead us into our next unit on food and healthy eating. O’Brien’s Field Trip & Friday Events On Thursday we will be walking over to O’Brien’s Market for a tour of the store. This will be the kick off to our next unit on Food & Nutrition. We have 8 parents joining us on the trip. It should be great fun. Regarding Friday’s parade here at school, please refer to the note that was sent home by Principal Jane regarding appropriate costumes. We will parade from 9:00 9:30. We will get out of our costumes and then have cross-age buddy activities from 9:45 10:45. After buddies we will share some Halloween stories, fun music, and hopefully an interesting visitor. I can’t wait!
